HELP QUICK - Advice needed
Hi guys,
Just had a phone call from williams, manchester regarding the excessive wear on the inside of all 4 tyres of my land rover.
Their technician has said that its either down to over/under inflation or balancing!!! sounds like he doesnt know himself. They want 773.00 for 4 new tyres and 222.00 for a 4 wheel alighnment.
I told her about the TSB LA204-008 regarding bush settle, she now going to look into it but Ive got a feeling they are just trying to get away with it
what should I do?? she ringing back shortly

Sounds like they're trying to get away with it. If it was over inflated, then surely it would be worn on the middle of teh tyre & under inflated on BOTH outside edges?
Blancing to be out on all four wheels? Possible, but unlikely....

I agree with Bodsy overinflated would result in wear in the centre and under would give you wear on the outer edges.
As for balancing being out i dont think that this would cause wear on the edges of all four tyres!!!
Sounds like an aligment problem
I am sure there are better qualified to enlighten you.
Good luck Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

beeesle, it take that "technician" quickly ruled out the inflation theory by checking the tyre pressures Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

tyre wear
HI i noticed the other day i had severe and I mean sever wear in the inside of my back2 tyres. Had to immediate get two from machonachies(sp). Does the bulletin still go for cars out of warranty? Also I think I have been given the wrong tyres...i asked for 112 and got 108h...will I be ok with these, I dont tow anything?TDv6 S 7 seat

You were sold the wrong tyres. Should be 255/60/18 111 or 112, NOT 108. Bush settle claim for out of warranty car will get nowhere I'm afraid, but get those tyres changed sharpish!I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Here's my '05 when it was about 6mths old, displaying tyre wear due to mis alignment (both rears the same, fronts were ok). This was rectified under warranty, and didn't re-occur.

Get an opinion from a tyre specialist, then go
back to your dealer...it sounds like an alignment problemPete

Maybe there is an alignment problem, but I would thank Williams for pointing it out, and take the car to a good tyre shop with laser alignment gear. You may save some money.
Presumably you'll need to ask them to leave it in alignment mode for you, then when you've had it checked on the laser rig, take it back to the dealer to have it put back to normal suspension mode? I'm thinking of doing it this way myself, but my dealer seems to charge £50 quid a pop every time they plug in T4!Previously:

Harwoods in Edenbridge (Kent but also has branches in Sussex and Hampshire from memory) will do it for £99 all in. You can't do it at Kwikfit or similar as its a 3D alignment with the air suspension rather than just toe-in/out. They reckon it's about 2.5 hours work (which fits with the £222 quote) but for that money, no-one ever got it done and they ended up with a bunch of complaints.
