HELP!! Tail gate

My turn to have the tail gate malfunction. Why is it that it happens just before you go away for the weekend? I'm left with a tailgate that is not open but not fully shut & so will not alarm as it is not fully closed. I believe it must be the cable to the catch as I can hear the motor trying to open it but failing.

Anyway, I found this useful thread & have got half way through & got stuck.

I have got the top plastic cover half way off from the inside but can't get it fully off. Neither can I see the catch or cables inside to fully release the top tail gate either. Do I need to just pull ther plastic cover even harder to release the clips & remove it? I have already found a hidden screw & removed it but the cover still refuses to budge. Alternatively does the cover completely come off & am I just missing the relaase cable? Big Cry

fs never had the problem myself but have had the trim off several times, the top bit comes off first and then (each time I've done it) the two vertical bits and the lower part in the shallow 's' shape come off together but
need a good tug, more than you would think is necessary ( Shocked ) to remove... HTH
 and theeeeennn......???

Can't see how you can get the cover off when its (at least) partially locked down - it wraps itself around the catch

And I've had a good look at mine today too

That's what I half wondered -it's the catch keeping it on then, b***er

Will have another look in the morning. Thanks

Well, I have to admit, I finally gave up. My back of my right hand was looking like I'd been self harming from trying to squeeze it into the gap to access the cable.
Turned out eventually to cost £200 & was a faulty catch. Presumably a design fault as it was always lubed liberally when the vehicle came back from a service. Interestingly, an infuriating rattle from the rear somwhere has now gone.
