Hi mini8334

I really think it is the perfect route, with the perfect cities to be at most one night at each stop, since they are not big cities like Madrid etc, I imagine you know that you will go to Bilbao that is in the opposite direction towards the East to Then back again to the West in the direction to Asturias (Llanes)
(I imagine you want to go Bilbao ... maybe to the Guggenheim?? It's worth it but it will take you almost the day) .....

The first part of your trip starts in Asturias (my land) will be the least hot period of your trip, you will see that the weather is the same as where you come from and if you are unlucky it could be very bad, but if you have good luck, and in the summer this it is possible, you can go to the beach and have a swim in the Cantabric sea this is Llanes ...Llanes is a small village perfect for a night and if its posible I recommend this camping:

CAMPING ENTREPLAYAS
https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=es&p...gQoioIejAO

Although it is not a great campsite, but for one night it is well located, over the sea between two beaches and very close to the small fishing village that is Llanes, unless you need a bungalow that I think does not have them, it is very well located near to center and is ideal to forget the car and walk ... there are many traditional restaurants called "sidrerias" to eat typical Asturian food at a good price (consists of fish and seafood and cheeses from the nearby mountains called the Picos de Europa ... you can order a fish called "Xaragu" or another a kind of small octopus called "chipirones" cooked on the grill, and a traditional blue cheese from the mountains made with raw cow's milk, goat and sheep and called cabrales, you have to drink natural cider that is the drink of this land, you will see that Is thrown in a very particular way, Not sold by glasses, only for whole bottles but for two people can quietly drink two or three green bottles (slightly less than 1 liter per bottle) because it has very little graduation, about five alcoholic degrees, and its gas is natural and not added ... you get your own foam through the pouring process that will make you the waiter, I recommend the "sidreria el bodegón" is in the center and it is easy but you will have to ask someone, it is easy to find among alleys ..the direction And the phone is in case it serves you "Calle Mayor, 16
Phone: +34 985 40 01 85....

...Way to Leon, if you have time to get to know the village of RIBADESELLA, on the way to about 40 km from Llanes by motorway (you need to get off and deviate a few kilometers but it is very beautiful there is celebrated every year the descent of canoes maraton category since More than 80 years old and come rowers from all over the world including national team GB, the villa is small and has a perfect estuary, ideal to know to do some photo, take a walk or have a coffee or more cider if you want ... .

....You will continue near to Gijon (where I reside) and Oviedo (the capital of the old kingdom of Asturias today called Principality of Asturias) if you have time you can stop, Gijon is a city with sea, about 300,000 habitants in it and with a great beach in the center.... and after Oviedo , the capital of Asturias, something smaller tham gijon but interior without sea but with a beautiful old part with a gothic cathedral....Stop in there if you have too much time... because although they are worth it are something complicated to travel without knowing and you will lose a lot of time ... I always say that Asturias requires many days for her alone there are many zones and things to see ... there is still whole a more occidental part of asturias more to the west way to Galicia ...

You will leave the Principality of Asturias by a motorway of high mountain very spectacular that crosses perpendicularmente the mountain range Cantabrica. Once overcome you enter the great Castilian plateau and you will miss the coolness of the Cantabric sea, completely change the climate from a wet atlantic type to a continental type hot in summer and very cold in winter and you will completely lose the green landscape that will have accompanied to you by Asturias and that sure that reminded you of your land...

Leon city is no much big, population 125.000, and very prety old village center ( gotic cathedral )...a camping that will be good

http://www.campingleon.com/

this is land of wine, lamb and cheese...no "sidreria" and no cider of course.... Laughing Laughing

Andalusian soul, Arab influence on the 4 sides, undeniable, but what people in Europe mistakenly call Spanish feeling and it is not, not is!! is in really Andalusian, its people, its climate, its customs, its history, its gastronomy, its "Fiesta" everything is different ... everything is Andalusian .... and everything is very very hot here .... enjoy your trip a lot ... I think you will like ... and ask what you want I´ll try to illustrate you with my short range in the language of Shakespeare!! Embarassed Laughing Laughing

Will be sure to touch base with you before I go and have a few questions!

Great write up Ruben. I have dipped out of my trip 3rd May for time being as garage found a problem with the OSF suspension air bag. Got one from Bob Thornton MMJ very helpful and faithfully delivered by daughter 4 hrs later alas too late for garage to fit. So maybe later in the month.

Struggling to find a good campsite between Llanes and Salamanca. Around Leon there doesn't appear to be anything that nice? Could you suggest an alternative stop/camping location? Thumbs Up

Not sure this is helpful as you are "tin tenting" or similar. I am still in UK but did plan a stop in Salamanca, by that I mean in the centre Salamanca as there is a wealth of old buildings and heritage to explore. On Booking.com there were quite a few hotels circa €40 and wonder if a night in a hotel (obviously with appropriate parking) might fit. Wink

Leon is a nice town!! very close to this camping although with car use I'm afraid, but with an interesting old town and gothic cathedral, good food based on "Spanish tapas" and red or rosé wine from the land

.....and If you are referring to the current climate, now there are 9 degrees and it rains a lot, at the time you come, here you will find a humid climate, like the British, on the Atlantic slope that in Asturias is, so you will see that the landscapes are totally green, you will see that this does not coincide at all with the common idea that many handle for Spain, neither the climate nor its people either , In ascending to the plateau by its north edge, already in Leon, the thing changes and the green of meadows disappears and the climate is transformed to continental type, reason why after crossing this mountain which are the southern limit of Asturias named Cantabrian Range, them the climate is transformed of radical way and you will start to feel warm, with some fresh nights in Leon or Salamanca... and later you will once again leave the plateau to the south and them all heat all the time in Andalucia Embarassed , days and nights Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad ..... this will happen if the conditions are the habitual ones!!
