Mines only done 60kmiles and the gear changes feel as slick as new. It’s just this bloody lag! I can’t find any other topics on the software update Sad

I may speak to Alive and see what they say about it

Is it worth checking around the air intake etc for leaks?

My D3 had a similar issue which I put down to being ‘just how it is’

When I came to sell it, a fellow forum member came to look and said it ‘wasn’t right’ and picked up a ‘whooshing’ that I’d missed for two years; me, and a Land Rover mechanic / enthusiast

Turned out the previous owner hadn’t put the spindle back when they removed the butterfly valve when disabling the EGR valves. Left a permanent leak, and when the turbo was trying to up the air pressure, it just leaked and left an underpowered car.

Response was for the car to hesitate, downshift Then pull off

Putting the spindle in ..... different car!

Got a D4 when we emigrated, and similar issue with the air intake box not being properly located into the throttle-body

So, worth a look?

ive just rung a different local dealer to the one im awaiting a call back from

gave her my chassis number to be told no outstanding recalls.... which I knew

so I asked about tech bulletins, but she cant tell as they haven't done any work on it

she cant go off the 2 TB numbers mentioned earlier unless the car has the fault.

told her it does

they would need the car in to diagnose it first before they will apply any software updates

so your car goes faulty, theres a bulletin for it IF you complain.... but they want to diagnose it first at a cost £180 quid to me.... to cure a manufacturers fault that is potentially dangerous

I have also just been told that the vehicle will have to be inspected first. I have booked mine in with Marsahll cambs for next week as I cant drive it like this!

first dealer called back now. much more helpful and thorough

there are no software updates or recalls outstanding for mine even though it falls within the VIN range affected. She even checked the bulletins directly.

as there are none outstanding then it may well have been already applied but hasn't cured the fault.

this is almost exactly the same scenario as the Freelander SD4 190BHP engine when it was introduced in MY2011. Some cars were fixed by dealer software updates, some were fixed by component changes and some weren't fixed at all no matter what. That fault seemed to disappear when the MY2013 facelift came in although the engines apparently weren't touched, same as rear diff pinion bearing failing. LR admitted no knowledge or responsibility for either fault/fix

So I wonder if as the MY2012 SDV6 was the first to have the 255BHP 8 Speed there is an inherent fault in it that causes this hesitation that they subsequently fixed on the quiet in the MY2014 facelift ??

food for thought maybe.....

think ill be heading the remap route when ive sorted my house move out

so is there a master list that they can see what LTB's have been applied?

Do you think the remap will solve if its a gearbox related issue?

Got a feeling that the ‘software updates’ don’t always class as recalls, etc.

With my D3, it hadn’t had the ‘California stop’ or the ‘turbo/egr exerciser’ updates applied, even though they were indicated.

Dealership was very clear that they wouldn’t ‘Just do’ An update without a car being submitted with symptoms, investigating those symptoms, then doing a ‘diagnostic’ and if indicated, then doing the update.

Downside being you may go thru a whole diagnostic visit and then they don’t update as they deem it not indicated.

The Gap IID tool will scan your ecu's and identify what software you have in place, and an email to Pat@gap will reveal if there is an update that can be applied via the IID tool.

Bell Auto Services can also supply remaps via the tool, but they do cost.

The tool isn’t cheap, but it does pay for itself in diagnostics, as well as allowing you to reconfigure the S what allowed me to identify both a broken mirror heater and dodgy turbo on my dealer-bought D4; which got them repaired under their warranty.

If you can get one, or find someone in your area that has one, may answer a lot of your questions.

Thank you Andy, I am in the process of trying to find a used iid tool. Do they work on multiple vehicles as I have x2 discos in the family and we could split the cost making it more affordable!!

Diagnostics works on all, configuring and flashing (and a few other things) are VIN locked. So you need two licenses if you have two vehicles.

I’d also say that IID is the best diagnostic tool for D3/D4.

fully agree that software updates don't come under the same umbrella as recalls which are generally safety related issues

IIRC LR main dealers used to check for any software updates and apply them when you put your car in for a service or other work.

as mine is coming up to 9 years old and 110k miles why on earth would I pay full dealer prices to keep maintained??

I did have it serviced under the 3+ scheme at LR last September after id bought the car, but you can bet your bottom dollar they don't check for software updates on that !!

so as has been mentioned elsewhere probably, due to the complexity of the software and hardware and all modern cars, and only the dealers having access to the updates, we are being forced to take 9 year old cars to main dealers and pay £180 for them to plug a computer in and tell me no updates available.
