High Beam Assist - well, some of the time.
Hi folks, not being a lazy person I’ve already searched for an answer but no joy. So here is the post
Had mine for about 6 months. Driven a lot in the dark and high bean assist is set to on in the settings and also correctly in the CCF.
The issue is that until the last few days it’s never worked at all, the light in the instrument cluster states AUTO. The i was looking at my trip computer or tinkering with menus whilst driving (don’t reccomend ;/) ) the out of nowhere high beam flicks on.
Now it kind of only half works. I have checked the parameters for it activating including speed etc.
Simple question is, if it’s setup and turned on, do the people who have it working experience basically high beam all the time when it’s dark and nothing is coming the other way or no traffic in front.
If the answer is yes, the. Any comments or suggestions as to why mine isn’t doing that would be much appreciated.
No errors in the car.
I was twiddling forages thinking it was pressing the ok button on the steering wheel that made it go to high beam !!
Thanks

My 2016 D4 defaults to dip. When no oncoming vehicles and not following another vehicle it automatically selects Hi beam. When oncoming vehicles are detected it then auto dips........but not quick enough for me as invariably get flashed.

Mine works all the time, rarely get flashed. When I do, it’s usually on a corner.
I have my lights set to auto and rarely touch anything else to be honest. 2010 D4

Lighs
Mine works and works well. But I cannot fathom what activates it.
What I find is driving on a dark road on auto the main beams will not come on. But if I put the main beam on myself by pushing the stalk forward then turning them off by pulling the stork back the beams will stay on high.
From that point its all automatic on and off. If at some point I feel they should dip due to traffic and the auto hasnt seen this for itself , I pull the stalk back (as if to flash) The lights drop to dipped and will stay that way
I then have to go through the process of 'restarting them'
I havent really took the time to really think about this or experiment further. Maybe you can try it yourself and give some feed back.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

Just to say that the way Charlietortoise described it working is exactly how it should. When you start the engine in the dark it will default to Auto with the light symbol with the A in it illuminated. It should go to high beam when no street lights, headlights or tail lights detected. When in high beam you pull the stalk back to flash (since you don't have the stalk forward like you would if you had selected high beam) and it will disable - the symbol on the dash disappears. To enable it again you push the stalk forward to put the lights up and then the A symbol will illuminate. You can pull back the stalk to the normal position and the lights stay up (as long as no-one coming, etc). It will then auto-dip once it detects a light again.
There is a sensor behind the mirror which sometimes needs a quick wipe. Don't do it while you are driving as it will think that there are no car/street lights and so put the high beam up.
Hope that makes sense.

Yes but you shouldn't have to turn it on every time. If you leave the lights on Auto, and have HBA on, you shouldn't need to adjust the stalk to get it working.
Obviously if you want to manually put the lights to high or dip when on high, you would need to use the stalk, and that will cancel the auto.
Initially though, they should be working straight away if the lights are selected to auto.
