High mileage

Hi all,
Thinking of a Discovery 4, the one I have my eye is a 2009 hse which has 147,000 miles on it. Full Land Rover service history and two owners.
What are your thoughts on one with this sort of mileage? Or steer clear? Is suspension, gearbox etc likely to be worn?

Thanks in advance
Richard

Is it a 3.0? There were some early 2009 2.7 D4’s iirc.

Chances are that it will have had various replacement suspension parts. Check through the service history if you are able to. Although such work might well have been done at an independent to save labour costs, there might be copies of receipts.

Also look to see if the gearbox has had an oil change or better still a “megaflush”, if not allow up to £400 to get that done.

Mileage wouldn’t put me off, provided the service history is comprehensive. I kept my D3 for 150k miles and it’s still going strong.

Yes I agree mileage wouldn't put me off one of these, as long as the history looks good and it drives OK I'd go for it.

I've just purchased one, and I do around 20k a year so i'll be adding to the miles on mine.

Thank you for the replies.
It says this:
2009 Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 TD V6 HSE 4X4 1Owner Full S.History New MOT
JUST SERVICED+6 MONTHS WARRANTY

The only thing I’ve noticed is the the rear door only says Discovery 4. It doesn’t say “TDV6 hse” like most others I’ve seen.

I have a MY12 with much the same mileage. I've had the usual issues, but still drives like new..

maybe someone de-bagged it. If its definitely a 3.0l TDV6, its the same twin turbo 3.0l used in all the D4s. I think it will have 245hp and probably no DPF. Thumbs Up

I recently bought my Disco 4, 65 plate (registered November 2015) with c.80k miles on it. Not high in the grand scheme but high for the age.

It's tight, straight, the last iteration so hopefully has as many bugs ironed out as possible and was in great condition.

Since June I've added about 3500 miles including three weeks running around France in the heatwave and it hasn't put a foot wrong (but it would be a poor show if a £50k 3.5 year old motor was starting to get flakey already).

When I got it I had it fully serviced and the gearbox oil changed by a local specialist, more for piece of mind and to ensure it had a 'proper' looking at not just a dealership oily rag and spit and polish.

I'd suggest my last comment is the most important one.

I obviously bought it at a price commensurate with its mileage, but to my mind it was by far a better bet than a much older, lower mileage one for the same money.

My last D4 had 140k+ on it and most of the big jobs had been done. The suspension arms needed changing but its probably a job that needs doing every 50-60k anyway (my current 2013 D4 also needs arms changing at 80k). It should have had the belts done also at that mileage and age

I have owned lots of D3/4s and now when i look at them i buy on condition, not mileage. Some higher miles cars have been looked after better than low miles cars

If the price is right-dont let the mileage bother you

The mile counter is simply a salesmans tool, if cars didn't have them everyone would buy cars based on condition Thumbs Up

The rear badge has been removed probably because some of the early higher spec cars had a full essay across the bottom of the rear door-DISCOVERY 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE. As the D4 evolved the model information on the rear door got less and less. First the 3.0 was dropped then the T(S)DV6 so you just got DISCOVERY 4 HSE

At this time factory or LR fleet cars were registered in east anglia, so the AJ could make it ex LR fleet. Also account for the odd badging, being an early D4?

Hi. i purchased a 2010 D4 with 136k miles on..full dealer history last August. Apart from a new float in expansion tank and a rare ICE issue it drives like a dream.. just passed its MOT with usual suspension bush play and brake pipes slight corrosion but i smile every time i drive it.
