down hill decent control problems I think??

I was coming down the downs yesterday and stopped to put on down hill decent control on to see how it would react, on gently pulling away to 5mph the control switched in and worked well just coasting at 5mph but was making nasty metal grinding noises which is worrying im sure this is not right??
The brakes never ever make noises on normal use and work well so I dont think it is low pads or that but unsure how down hill decent works wether its via pads and disc or some alternative device.
Also on purchasing my disco 3 the off side rear disc has few grooves into it, could this be the problem or caused by what ever problem I have?? Regards Darren

Totally NORMAL...

I know its a Weird, un-natural sound.............But its as it should be. You can replicate this by using the Emergency stop procedure by pulling the EPB whilst driving, does the same noise

As above - quite normal.
The noise is a bit disconcerting at first but I believe It has to do with the ABS modulator being used to control the braking, you will get a similar noise it you apply the brakes a bit too hard under slippery conditions - mud, snow or ice etc.

Thank you for replies so far

Many thanks just thought it sounded bit dangerous and didnt fancy causing any more harm by keeping it on. Least now I can relax rather than waste money at a garage for no reason Shocked
