Can anyone help with ideas for a lift to get pedal cycles onto the roof of a Discovery.
There was a device a few years ago made by Atera but now discontinued. It's no great problem when I have an assistant but need something I can work solo - other than a length of rope!A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Plastic folding step for me. Pick the bike up fairly low on the frame. Step onto the step, not too close to the car, rest one wheel on the required rack, lift the other wheel on, never been a problem.d4 HSE
Ha! Steps are what I'm trying to avoid. Expo rack makes it 6" taller, and girl-friend is only 5'4" so no chance she can lift if I'm not there. However, as in avatar, she can fit through the roof light of the caravan to clean the roof!
Also, what stops bike falling over until there is someone up on the rack to attach the diagonal stay?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. At 5’4”, it’s a near impossibility.
SWMBO is 5’3”. I’ve tried planting her in a grow bag, fertiliser, the lot, but she seems to be shrinking with age.
Not helped by the fact 14 yr old daughter is 5’10” and still growing. Even the dog is taller. Still i suppose we need to support a Hobbit.

Your dog is taller than your 5'10" daughter? What breed is it - a Baskerville?

Why not just carry them on the back on a tow bar mounted carrier? Reduces wind drag and mpg as well as easier to load.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price! - So good I bought another!

There is a reason I posted this in the caravanning section ! !A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
Ha ha. The roof of that (hired?) car is oxter height. The D4 is 18" above head height and has a very steep rise to bonnet. I would have had to start practice 30 years ago to do what he does, and 20 years before that to do it on a D4!A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. Also the Holidays section (ok, I admit I didn't read what section it was in). When we take the bikes on holiday they're on the back.
Even so, there are carriers that mount on the tow bar and still allow you to drag a shed behind you.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Would need a fixed towbar for that - A.K.A. "The Plough".A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
