If I didn't have an extinguisher that could have happened to me 2 years ago.
Climbing the hill on the M90 to Broxden roundabout noticed white smoke billowing out over the front of the caravan so pulled over to check and smoke enveloped the front of the car. Opened the bonnet and found small fire over the offside head so grabbed the extinguisher from the boot and put it out. the only visible damage was servo pipes totally melted so not driveable.
Called Green Flag for recovery and while waiting had 2 Fire Engines, the Fire Officer and a Traffic Cop in attendance - informed by Green Flag. With great difficulty managed to persuade the Brigade not to douse the engine with water as the fire had been out for at least half an hour.
Recovered to Disco Mikey who found that the spill pipe from No.1 injector had split and sprayed fine mist over hot exhaust and caused the fire. The only damage was said pipe and servo pipes melted.
