HPFP Belt - rubber smell and smoke

I’m trying to bring some life in a badly treated D3…
Almost finished ( I hope).

Had a successful testdrive after refitting the badly leaking vacuum pump and cracked crossover pipe ( because they neglected to put the bracket on the gearbox). Successful…. except for the smell of rubber and some smoke coming from behind the back of the engine when parked.

I suspected the tensioner of the hpfp to be stuck, just now removed belt and tensioner, which is moving freely. Looking on the web for belts and tensioners I see they offer belts with 82 teeth and 85. Mine has 82, is it possible this belt sits too tight and I would be needing the 85 one??

Thanks for the advice, regards from The Netherlands!

82 teeth is the correct HPFP belt for chassis 7A onwards (2007 MY) 85 is for the early cars. Thumbs Up

There was a recall? Or TSB where the HPFP could catch fire.

So it’s possible that maybe the smoke ?

Or is it just oil onto exhaust from the vac pump ?
