I had very similar symptoms on my 08 D3 and the P0087 fault code. I had no pressure at the schraeder valve so changed out the LPFP but still had the faults. In the end I got a refurbed HPFP from PF Jones, I've not had any issues since I changed it.
I found that by driving at higher revs in command shift that it didn't go into limp mode as often.

Looking at the price of a new HPFP pump, it is an expensive diagnosis error, especially with the time required to fit.

Its funny you should say that as i found the exact same, if i thrashed it in command shift it didnt happen as much.

Yes your right there, refurbished pump from PF jones is just over £400 which isnt too bad compared to a new one at nearly a grand.

Fittings not an issue as i'll do it myself, going to do the timing belts etc at same time

my car is pushing 175k miles and going by the well documented history it hasnt had a fuel pump, so gues it has to fail at some point.

still a few checks to do before i bite the bullet but everything is leaning towards the HPFP so far

The refurb HPFP from PF Jones is a Siemens refurb and has that same warranty as a new unit.

Just been on the phone to PF Jones - they don't have any cores in stock to provide me with a recon unit but have offered a turn around of 10 working days

My other option is a recon Lucas unit from Euro car parts

Has anyone got any experience with the Lucas recon'd unit?

Actually, I think I recall DM saying in a post somewhere recently he might have one on the shelf!

He only has a euro 3 one, looks like I’ll just have to send mine away to PF Jones if the other checks I carry out once home confirm my suspicions. Intending doing the timing belt and a few other repairs so should keep me busy for a while until the pump is turned around.

Sure I’ve read people having issues with Lucas euro car parts pump, turns out the PF Jones recon pump is cheaper anyway

Don't they (pfj) have a new SVDO pump for £725.00 inc VAT!!

That's got to be the cheapest out there for a New pump? OK it's £300 more but do you want to be doing this job again if the recon doesn't work out?

https://www.pfjones.co.uk/land-rover-disco...13482.html

Personally, and after a lifetime of working on vehicles I do not and will not fit recon parts. Thumbs Up

Unfortunately they don’t have any in stock and don’t know when they will. But yes if they did have in stock I’d be going down that route

Ah, OK so I thought it was the recon unit they had no stock of.

The only other option I can think of is:

BUT, remember the forum discount applies!!!

Or, you could give these guy's a bell and see what they want for a new pump. (ignore image)

They dont have stock of either, no new units available and they dont have any old cores to build a recon unit, so my only option is to send in for repair.

New LPFP - same symptoms!

Just returned from the Indy having spent £900 on a LPFP change - first hill I tried to accelerate up and bong - same faults argh!!!!!!!! (2.93A current draw now worse than before!) Will be returning to the garage to get them to explain why the LPFP change has made no difference despite all the experts (and the Indy) saying the symptoms were pointing to the LPFP. Will keep everyone posted.
