Hi all,
Most recent work carried out was the auxiliary belt, timing belt and oil pump. Original oil pump was still fitted after 145,000 so feel like I should buy a lottery ticket! Car was running better and no issues until around 80 miles after work was carried out.
The issue I've been having is when starting the car (level ground, temperature around 15 degrees and car not been started for around 8 hours after running fine) it doesn't want to start. It turns over fine but just doesn't start. Identical to the start of the LR time hpfp video. The only difference being occasional it sounds like the lpfp continues to pump for a few seconds after and when it is running and in manual gear mode (it is an automatic) it no longer can remain at idle in gear 3 and automatically reduces to 2 which hasn't happened before.
I have ordered a pressure gauge to check the schrader valve and follow Robbie's guide and also ordered a diesel filter for good measure and rule it out.
So far my impression is high pressure pump is the issue and was wondering if anyone can give some advice towards if I should check anything else, and if anyone has refurbished their hpfp themselves using the new seal kits found online for around £40.
Sorry for the long post and thank you for any help you can give

Filter was changed around a year ago. At the moment I think its about 3,000 however it was a cheap unit. I have bought an all makes 4x4 filter now and will hopefully fit today or tomorrow.

I had a cheap filter that had a tiny pin hole in it that allowed air to enter and then the fuel ran back to the tank overnight. Changed it out for a genuine one and it solved it. Andrew

How did the pinhole develop? Was it an immidiate issue or did it happen after a period of use?
Thanks

Manufacturing fault, i fitted the filter and next day i had the fault. At first i thought it was just a bit of trapped air but after a couple more days it was still the same. Andrew

UPDATE.
After a few more tests I think I have found the fault to be the LPFP relay. I managed to get by for a few days using a bypas and removing once the engine was running (presumably the HPFP is capable or drawing fuel from the tank?) I have since replaced the relay and had no further issues.
I did a fair amount of research into the HPFP and potentially servicing it. I will make a separate post containing this information incase it is useful for somebody in future.

i also thought my lpfp, diesel filter was at fault as didnt start on the first try.
It turned out to be the starter turning over to slow. (100rpm)
New starter fitted and starts after about 1 second as now turning over at (280rpm)
