My office is in Harefield and I have to say watching the construction of the bridge crossing the A412 and across the lakes is exquisite! Stunning engineering!

Yes I am a little bitter as I didn't realise when I moved the importance of that main country lane in and out of the village. Which HS2 will cut straight across. I enjoy being able to work the fields literally opposite my house - But I can't moan about this really, as it was flagged and I chose to proceed so would be wrong of me. In terms of costs, time and the actual benefit I still feel HS2 is pointless. Northern powerhouse rail for me!
If you’re in Altofts there shouldn’t be too much to worry about because Phase 2b (Birmingham to Leeds/York)was canned a couple of years ago.
We should both be furious that NPR seems to be slowly being allowed to die off.

I have a friend who lives in Harefield.
Over the past year I also have watched in amazement at the bridge work. It is great and bad in equal measure. The amount of concrete and steel work does make for a big carbon footprint.
Just cannot see how the amount of destruction is needed, generally in the local area I live and work passing the project.Discovery commercial tdv6 auto 2013

So ... we finally get to see the real reason HS2 didn't get to reach Manchester- the government didn't realise there was a "North" outside of London.

I thought that’s what the horrific tax on fuel and the vehicle excise licence paid for…
This Government treat us all like simpletons.. hopefully 2024 will see change..

Totally agree. You vote for the party that you think will screw you over least.

Politicians and their parties is what it's about.
Read an interesting article about HS2 and how it would have expanded the woefully under capacity train network we have in the UK, which after the odd time I've had to get a train, wouldn't be a bad thing!

That's rather the result of the general political leanings of the UK electorate as a whole. Basically central but depending on what is going on at the time of the GE people vote one way or the other. Neither way is, thankfully, extreme so we get a left or right leaning version of whatever the last lot got wrong.
It's why the FPTP system we have is rubbish - it doesn't allow for any answers other than "yeah, well, maybe that...".Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
