HSE Harmon Radio upgrade?

Is it possible and who has replaced the factory head unit in a HSE D3 while keeping the 4x4 screen, Sat nav, steering wheel controls ect? Basically keep everything working as factory but have a more modern head unit instead of the factory 6 disc changer. Thumbs Up

This is exactly the information I am looking for myself but don’t seem to be able to find it here. I just get folks telling me to search the forum 🤦‍♂️

One solution is to split the LR head unit in half, install it in the upper glovebox, to keep the rest of the car working.

And with the new headunit, connect the speaker outputs to under the seat (bypassing amp)

This is copied from my original post

Basically the CD player has packed up on the wife’s D3 2006. It’s the 6 disc with Harmon kardon. I’ve looked online and I can easily replace it with a second hand eBay unit. However I’ve seen videos of people upgrading there’s but in most cases it says that they either don’t work with Harmon Kardon or the steering wheel controls don’t work or there just always seems to be something that doesn’t work correctly. My question is does anybody know if there is an upgraded head unit that I can fit that will work perfectly with everything and fits straight in. Her model does not have the sat nav screen on the dash if that makes any difference. I really need someone that’s already done this as I don’t want to waste money buying something that I later find out doesn’t work exactly as it should.

The simple answer is yes. But. It’s a pain.
My D3 was/is the ‘S’ model but I wanted to update the stereo etc, etc basically make it an HSE.
So I bought all the correct looms, interior and dash, MOST etc but I’m still missing some.
It’s a lot easier if you have the ‘SE’ model to upgrade from.

NO , he asked if he can keep the factory nav /4x4 info screen and update the head unit to a non LR unit.
Short answer is no nothing will just fit and everything still work, only tricks i've heard of that work are to either extend the wiring and hide the original unit under the passenger seat or remove a circuit board from the unit and hide it behind the dash and wire in a new head unit.

Not all SE models had a most system, mine had the base CD400.
