Hydraulic jack question
With the impending collection of a D4, I know that the 2 trolley jacks that I have will not have a long enough reach to lift it. Seen a few trolley and bottle jacks, but with differing reach measurements. So my question is what reach do I need to lift the D4 so I can change a wheel (well clean it mainly) and get an axle stand underneath?
Seen a bottle that has 400mm and a trolley with 500mm. Would the bottle be enough?
Also I was going with a 3T jack, I am assuming thats enough.MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

In my view you need a trolley jack with around 500mm of lift. 3 tonnes is fine but not all 3t jacks are equal as some quick lifts have been known to distort.
I like my Clarke but the price of them has risen dramatically over the years so others will be better value.
For stands look at 6t capacity to get the reach you require.

Same recomendation from me for the Clarke 3t jack and 6t stands
I haven't tried them but SGS Engineering jacks get good reports and seem well priced too.
I would look for a link to SGS Engineering for you but I would end up getting distracted and buying things

I've got a Sealey which (aside from being black) looks identical to Robbie's.
Don't be swayed by the cheaper 3T jacks, whilst the hydraulics may be OK, the chassis are generally too narrow making them unstable, you want the largest footprint you can get and good heavy duty stands.

I have and they make very good trolley jacks and bottles. In my picture above you can also see a small SGS bottle and an aluminium low profile trolley jack.

SGS seem to have the right stuff, just bought a 3 tonne jack and pair of 6 tonne ratchet stands, but not the 'package deal' saving £11 before vat by buying as individual items!
Next day delivery arrived and I'm very impressed with the quality thus far, don't think the jacks going to be travelling in the disco much though, just home servicing use, next job is turning up a chassis adaptor.

I have a couple of SIP Omega 3T jacks, they have a fast lift feature as opposed to a what is often call rocket lift.SIP 07256 is same in the modern range
Basically they have a short stubby foot pedal that allows you to jack them up to height without moving the handle. All it does is operate the same mech as the handle so doesn't have the 2 stage pump like the rocket lift type which have more things to go wrong.
They have a wide foot print and are heavy around 40kg, even dragging it around it takes a lot to rock it.They have nice big rubber pad that covers the whole head not just the inside(this is different on the new ones).Mine are blue but they make them in black/red now. Just looked at the prices OMG they are £150 now!, I bought one of mine and a few for friends when they had them on special at Costco(13-14yrs ago) and they were £27!!!IID PRO

Thanks for the helpful replies chaps. Not even considered whether my stands would be high enough, so will have to check. Sounds like I will have to spend a bit more than I thought
Seems bottle jacks are cheaper. Considering this will be for occasional use, I'm no oily rag, what's the thoughts on them? Too unstable with size of car?MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

Must be good as Disco Mikey uses one all the time.

Got my 3 ton jack from Costco, it is low level and lifts the D4 without issue, excelent jack in my opinion and very stable. From memory about £65 when I got mineMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I have the clarke 3t same as Robbie, couldnt get one of the cup adaptors even from Clarke, so cut up a pair of old boot soles and it does the job fine.
My son wasnt impressed with the end result of his Timberlands being chopped up,,,,still We had told him to take them home or else Current - Range Rover TDV8 2007 HSE.

Robbie the red folding axled stands...Flack used some with my car a few weeks back doing a wheel bearing. Is the top wide enough to fit the width of the chassis rail?
