Do I have adaptive Xenons or just regular?
How can I tell? I have a 2005 V8 SE with xenons, but not sure if they are adaptive or not. I notice in the 'parking' (sidelight) light area there a 2 bulbs, 1 very small bulb and one twirly bulb. If they are adaptive, do the main lights actually swivel or is it just the twirly bulb that illuminates? Also, how can I make the lights turn with the car in Park? Is that possible?
Finally, are they bi-xenon? When Hi-beam is on, the small lamps nearest the grill light up and they are clearly halogen.

Chances are you haven't got adaptives as you would have noticed them at work by now if you did unless you only ever drive in daylight
When you start the engine do the lights do an alignment 'dance'? Try it when it's dark, if they do then they're adaptives, if they don't they're not. No you can't make them move when you're in Park (apart from when you start the engine), they stay centred when you're not moving
The Bi-Xenon bit is to do with the shutter that moves in front of the lamp when you switch to high-beam, search the site and you'll find a more detailed answer The End

Well, bu*&er me!! I have adaptive Xenons then cos when I start the car the lights do a wierd sort of move, a bit like a powerpoint slide transition with both lights sort of wiping out to the side and back to the centre and when I turn the wheel one way or put indicators on an extra light comes on to illuminate that side.
Still getting to know my car - only had it since Weds....

mrandmrsh, if your car is a 57 reg, then it should be a MY2008 built! Sorry, I was just looking at your profile and its said 2007 but your sig line said it was 57 reg car! Ben
Do you like the adaptive lights? I had them on my Lexus RX300 and they distracted me so much I turned the feature off! The headlamp beams didn't swing progressively - but all of a sudden past a certain amount of steering lock, which was more annoying than useful. Maybe the D3 ones are a bit more refined.Previously:

Does this follow each year? Mine is a 55 reg but only a 05MY! Surely the only way of telling the model year is from the VIN No... just in case it was sitting in a field for a few months like mine! (So I missed out on the adaptive lights as well)

D3s ones are lot more refined than the Toyota ones. I only notice that I don't have them on the Golf; why can't I see round that corner? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
