Totally agree, but then how often does a face-lifted model of any car look better than the original?
The first is everything the designer imagined... the second is a compromise in the name of fashion simply to keep sales going.
A D3 with the 3.0 SDV6 (8-speed) and nicer wheels was all they needed to make a classic!

Standard or modified I think the D3 looks great. However I do swing towards modified
And, they can be modified in many ways. Either as an off road toy, or a tarmac terrier

I still have the Top Gear mag from 2004 when they did the first drive and review of it.
I was finishing 6th year at school at the time.
8 years it took for prices to fall to let me get one. Best car i've owned and it will be a very hard car to replace one day as it covers so many bases, does so many things.
Think it will be a D4 HSE Luxury that will take up the challenge in a few years.
The D3 is staying though, i'll run it till it dies.
Mine is modified and imho looks great for it. However, i do really like them without any mods.
All clean, original and as LR intended.
I think the D3 will go down in LR history as a benchmark car and a design class in it's own way.In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

If Land Rover hadn't applied the designs of the last five years it would be dead in the water...strange that the volume sales for last month were in this order:
Range Rover Evoque
New Range Rover Sport
Discovery Sport
New Range Rover
Discovery
Defender
Freelander
I think this would confirm that the majority are happy with the new styling 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I know the sales figures can't be argued with, but it would be nice to know how they relate between new to the brand customers and existing.
Yes, I also know they need to attract new customers and most existing customers will come around to new designs and styles, but even so Discovery does have a distinct heritage and history.
Given they are going to have Defender, Discovery and Range Rover, I don't see why the Discovery Sport couldn't have a different look, as personally it just looks like an Evoque. In fact my Evoque owning father-in-law has already been asked what he thinks of his Discovery Sport.Andy

It's odd that your list should include the Freelander in the sales figures for last month, as the very last new versions of the Freelander were all pre-registered in by November 2014
It's certainly true that the new styling has been a sales success and it's attracted a lot of new people to the brand, though knowing this doesn't mean that I like it any more than I did!

How odd, I searched the country for a new one in November last year and each dealer told me that LR had insisted that every last one was pre-registered in November last year - though they did give a registration bonus of £2-3,000 just to clear them out of the market.

Now that's a nice looking car!
I'm just working out if I'll be able to afford to buy the side steps AS WELL AS the car! (it's still exactly 1 month from delivery...)
