I have gone with Warranty Direct

I have been offered a Warranty Direct deal of £575 for 12 months (15 if i don't claim in the first three months of my new car).

My car is a Disco 3 HSE 76k, 56 Plate Auto.

The details:
£50 Excess
Network garage Rate repairs to the value of the car.
NO contribution to the parts (normally a sliding scale) i.e. removal of betterment clause.
Failure of MOT due to emission or airbags.
Wear and tear is obviously covered.

I am thinking of taking this, but i have also been offered an AA waranty at £24.99 a month. Not got the full details yet but I am minded to go with warranty Direct even though it is more expensive.

I had a conversation with an independent garage the other day. I asked him with a 76K 56 plate HSE will I need a warranty? His answer was that there are a number of high value repairs that are often needed around this age for this vehicle.

So I think i do need a warranty, but should I go with Warranty Direct £575 or £1092 (24 months) or a rolling £24.99 a month AA warranty.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Cheers

Hi W, that's a pretty good price considering no reduction for age relating to parts. I have a 56MY HSE and had a WD warranty, only time I needed them was for aircon pipe split (sorry sir we don't cover pipes) job cost nearly the price of the warranty??? I would just go for the enine and transmission deal it's a lot cheaper.

Should I accept this Warranty?

Apologies, I have previously posted this elsewhere, but it wasn't getting read. I need some feedback if possible.

Seems like I posted in the wrong place. Ah well. Just seems that not too many people want to read about warranties etc. when they could be reading about more glamorous subjects.

Any comments welcome, it really is the first time i have bought an extended warranty since i have always owned newer in manufacturers warranty cars.

Thanks

W.

Look in Fin & Ins section, lots and lots and lots of stuff in there on loads of warranty companies. Lots on WD as they are one of the bigger players. Thumbs Up

Or maybe it's that warranties have been discussed in depth especially over recent weeks.
Have a look at threads here .......
http://www.disco4.com/forum/finance-insura...-vf24.html
....... and there should be enough information to make up your mind.

Me ..... I wouldn't touch any of them with a barge pole!!!
[my reasoning is in one of the many threads and I aint going to repeat myself again]

Good luck Thumbs Up

Wayneskie,
Re WD, I recently had a claim for a rear brake caliper. If my experience is typical, you need a patient garage; before they would authorise the claim (only £184, so not a huge amount), they wanted a photo of the caliper, which showed....nothing. It was an internal fault, so not visible, but it had the effect of extending the time taken for a repair. My car sat on the ramp while the guy at WD looked at the emailed photo, and in other circumstances may increase the cost to you as WD will only pay the book time for the repair, meaning the garage may bill you for the extra time (which was caused by the WD authorisation procedure).
As I say be aware, but of course, other warranty firms may be the same/worse. WD did reimburse me for the cost, minus my excess, so I have made some inroads into my premium.
Regards,
Chris

I have taken the Warranty Direct Offer!

I have accepted the Warranty Direct Policy.

After much thought and some research i have decided to take a punt. Here are the details.

Disco 56 Plate Dec 2006. 76K. HSE with a few extra bits.

Policy:
24 Months (kicks in September after 3 month sale warranty). So first year 15 for 12 if no claims within first three months. Provided no claim in first three months I am covered until September 2014.

Price £1050
Extra Care. Independent garage rates.
No contribution to parts (waived)
Airbags and MOT emmision failure.
24k per year if needed (added at the last minute when i said I may do slightly more than 12k a year (unlikely).
Wear and tear after 90 days (which I think is resonable and understandable).
£50 Excess.

I am a happy bunny. Basically I am looking at it as a £525 per year punt. Touch wood nothing will go wrong, if it does I have a chance to recover some of the costs. If this fails I will be out of pocket by £525 a year for two years. Not great, but not the end of the world.

Couple of tips:

I got the cost down from £1092 to £1050.
I stated I have my credit card in my hand, let's do it for £1000. Hang on a minute Sir let me speak to my supervisor. Yes sir £1000 is ok if you pay the full £1000 now by card. How much for 4 quarterly instalments. £1050 in four equal quarterly payments. Done for £1050.

I quoted Extra care is one of our top policies. Really what is your best policy? Luxury care Sir. Can you give me Luxury Care please. Let me ask. No sorry your car is too old for luxury care. Worth asking. I feel i could have got Luxury care if my ccar was a little younger!

Opinions please. Have i done well or not?

Obviously the proof will be in the pudding with a claim so to speak!

I forgot to add....

I mentioned I am taking a punt.

I am not a betting man, but I really do see insurance as a kind of bet. Albeit one with rules which you have to follow. Be shrude and play fair and hopefully it will work out.

Let's see!

Warranty Direct, I recently had a successful claim for a wheel bearing and 4 wheel alignment, but had to repay the garage when they subsequently refused to pay for egr valves due to their interpretation of 'failure caused by carbon build up' despite me having emissions cover. I have heard of this several times, and it seems to be the stock answer now.

If your egr's fail, get the garage to clean them up before photographing them. Wink

You have a good deal there.

Just had a Turbo replaced with Warranty direct, process was a bit slow due to approval process. required pictures taking then haggle with garage over price of new turbo but overall was handled courteously despite my rantings!
Price of warranty £600 ish, cost of turbo fitted £1280 ish - no contest ('Smile')
