Ignition barrel replacement |
|
After some fault finding with a problem. I’m looking to replace the ignition mount on my disco 3.
Has anyone done this before?
I cant find any videos on YouTube so it’s looking like I’ll be relying on the old Haynes Manual!

I’ve done it, not to bad and I only used the Haynes manual Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes, pads, callipers, flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

When my barrel failed the AA chap managed to remove it in about 10 minutes so not overly involved, he did say that sometimes they put up more of a fight as they have to be started off with a chisel given that they are sheer bolts so have no head. I fitted the replacement one and there's not a lot to it really, clip the switch onto the back/plug it in if you're using the new one and clip the immobiliser ring around the opposite end. I ended up using different sheer bolts (QRH100030) as they were much easier to source at the time and more economical, the only difference is that they are slightly shorter. Getting the cowl to go back properly was the most difficult bit of the job.

So after a few cups of coffee waiting for the rain to stop this took me about 20 mins with the main time being taken by the sheer bolts.
Whole lot replaced now.
Down side is it’s not resolved the problem so next step take out the instrument cluster!
