Ignition live in rear and fuse box locations
Hi all.
Bought myself front and rear dash cams. Xiaomi 70mai S1. £28 each delivered on Amazon. They aren't linked together but the app allows multiple cameras and you can rename them. Good quality and a bargain too. Anyway...
I want to fit additional 12v power outlets hidden front and rear so they are dedicated for the dash cams, effectively hardwiring them so there's no cables on show.
I'd like to use a piggy back fuse for convenience. Is there a fuse box in the rear I could use?
Or is there something I could tap in to to take power to a power outlet?
tow-bar electrics ? sockets for them are in left-hand rear cubby..
Dean

I suppose if there's no fuse box back there, I could use that or the wiring for the power socket on the rear left. Would it be alright taking a feed off either of those wires to power the dash cam or would it draw too much if I had a trailer attached or something else in the other power socket such as the cool box?
Power socket would be easiest I suppose as it's quicker to work out which wire does what, compared to tow electric wiring.

Right, I've ran the wires into place. Looking tidy! 8)
Having looked in the rear left cubby bit, I can see the genuine LR tow electics and they seem nice and easy to get to, with having to dismantle anything.
Anyone know what colour is an ignition live?
A search on here suggests Red+White? I'd like to double check before committing.
Would you use a Scotch lock to attach a 12v power socket or strip the wire and solder it?
Getting the micro USB through the rubber grommit between boot lid and body was fun, not, but I managed it with frustration and patience. Will drop a photo ot two on a new thread reviewing the cameras.
Scotch locks are just a problem waiting to happen. Make a proper joint and it'll last.
Regards,
Steve

Agreed. I'm just not 100% I've got the right wire colour for the ign live. Hopefully someone will be along to confirm.

Can anybody help with the correct wire identification for an ignition live in the rear left hand wheel arch on the tow socket wiring loom? It's a genuine Land Rover loom if that heps at all?
I've done the front and all is good. Not got round to the back yet as the boot is usually occupied with dog boxes.
Or point me to a schematic so I can identify the colours myself?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think that there is a switched live on the tow electrics, only permanent live (blue/pink).
If you want switched live I believe you'll need to use the power socket supply
Of course I may be wrong but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will confirm either way.MY16 Landmark - Yulong White

I went with the power socket wire in the end.
Initially I couldn't find the wires to the 12v socket so was looking at the tow electrics as an alternative option. I had another look and found the wires tucked up high and wrapped in black fabric wrap.
Spliced into and soldered, all working as it should
Even treated to a vacuum and wipe with a cloth whilst I'd got the dog boxes out.
