I'm coming out.
Its time, although some of you may know, but I'm coming out.
I've been too long hiding in plain sight, but I'm a SUV owner. There, I've said it and I feel so much better and freer for saying it.
Is there anyone else that wants to come out and share with me? After all, as a minority, I feel that how I identify is being discriminated against.

I guess I’m not as brazenly “out” as you, now not owning a Land Rover, but moving to Volvo

You might drive a Volvo but you could identify as an SUV-driver.

Land Rover almost invented the class with the original Freelander.
However I don't include mine with the "SUV" which is little more than a fat bodyshell on a standard car chassis.
The Discovery is an offroader! It just happens to be as good on tarmac as most other vehicles.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Jeep would probably contend that it was they who invented the SUV. But today it's a term used for just about any car that has a chunky body design and higher driving position than "normal" cars. It's a pointless term these days, in my opinion, because cars are generally so much sportier than they once were whilst also having greater utility. The loss of off road ability from the majority of the sector - the original SUV USP when compared to "normal" cars - means it's a pretty pointless name now anyway.
An example. The Ford Puma. Autoexpress's summary:
Quote:
The Ford Puma is a stylish, practical compact SUV that’s good to drive, but lacks cabin space
Lacks cabin space. Where's the "utility" in that design then? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

"When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die! You don't know who's children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"

Moved to Skoda. Proud of it, and a lot less poor as a result.

I suspect a "Polluting Monster" behemoth of today produces less noxious gasses than an ordinary saloon of only 5-10 years ago but I doubt they could get them off the road.
And as for a "behemoth" a Skoda Octavia which would be classed as a saloon is 2017mm mirror to mirror, a Kodiaq is 2087. So a whole 70mm makes all the difference.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.
