I'm happy with my D3 - and would buy it again

Just decided to start this topic as a "positive counterbalance" for those poor souls seeking advice prior to buying a new Disco. Since this site contains a lot of "regreted / never again / what a crap" topics it is clearly an unbiased and authentic source of information for prospective owners Very Happy Therefore I want to shout it out loud:

My D3 is as damn close to a perfect all-round car as it can be. Never had a single hitch with it (except for the 3rd row seatbelt buckle, follow the link in my sig Laughing ) and would instantly go and order another one should the need arise. It has only 3000 km in it, but - based on earlier reports on this forum - thought that I'll be through a few compressors and software updates by this time Wink But - knock on wood - not even a single BOING. My advice: if you like this car, go and order one - count me in as a positive owner report Laughing

Yep me too, 12 month and 20,000 miles of very happy motoring so far Very Happy

There's only two things I'd change it for:
1. A TDV8 Discovery 3 in Tangiers Orange Tangiers Orange
2. A Discovery 4 Razz

And me, 18 months, 43000 miles. A few issues, all sorted out, but the car is still fantastic.

No errant 'Bongs' for over 35000 miles now.

14month,41.000km

not that happy with the car.
Compared to my ex defender 110 my DIII is way below performance where I need it (adventure/holiday off-road, not playing off-road)

Luxury compared, yes the DIII scores way way above the def110.

Next car: Defender 130

Happy with it all! Brilliant drive, safe and spacious for the family (now needing 5 adult seats essentially). Goes to Alps and back without any back ache and wouldn't change it for the world (well actually will have to clear the loan first). Only down side is the mpg not what they say on the advertisements, but amazing considering 2.7 tonnes of driving fun Very Happy Very Happy

The Land Rover Discovery 3 is the best car I have ever owned. It does everything that I need and quite a lot more....I am yet to take it off road but I will do that too.

Done nearly 7000 miles in my HSE. Been all the way to South of France and back and I have had no problems. Doing it again this year Wink can't wait!!

I too am getting over 30 mpg on a run and 23 around town. Not as thirsty as the Porsche Cayenne and comparable to the BMW X5 (if you read the test reports rather than BMW's figures!).

I quite agree with csory, this forum has had a lot of negative stuff on the D3 but from only a small number of owners. And as far as I can tell those that have had problems have had them fixed to their satisfaction. I am sure that even BMW X5's and Volvo XC 90's have their fair share of hardware failures.

I know that some folk have had a few problems but I believe the vast majority of owners have had no problems and love the vehicle, & have kept the secret to themselves!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

I don't work for LR (just in case you were wondering), and I think we should praise the vehicle a wee bit more on here!! Otherwise there is a real danger that we will end up frightening off new owners.

indeed, like you say, the DIII is a great car on-road...

Also been to Crosica and back (came back with park brake problems)

I don't know about others, but I can compare with several off-roaders I drove for several years, and did very long trips with all of them (Austria, South of France, Germany,...)

Believe me, the DIII is not on top of that list.

for one it is WAY to fragile
for the rest the gearbox and electronics have a strange behaviour and fails where you can't afford it to fail

For the money I paid the DIII, I've should have bought a defender with true-track's installed, fitted other back seats, and sound isolation...

Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of my DIII, glad I tried it, but it wil be the first and last Wink

one of these will be my next LR
http://www.matzker.de/product_info.php?products_id=584
or this one but then rebuild as camper Wink (I can't find a better one for now)

Penguin - look again at the title of this thread - as you may detect it's for happy, contented people - who are happy and contented with their D3 - perhaps you should start yet another 'let's be unhappy with the D3' thread eh ! Wink

Where there's an up, there is a down, where there's a plus there's a minus Wink

I'm happy with the DIII, just not enough to drive long with it, or even buy one after this one Wink
