The Impossible Build! 2005 Land Rover LR3 HSE V8 4.4
Hi,
I'm Tiago,
Recently bought LR3 here in Canada With 163000Km.
Long Story short, I'm from Portugal and always loved Discovery's, some family members had it and I always thought about it as a ultimate off road car perfect for trips/ Camping.
After years in Canada Ontario, me and my wife developed a passion for exploring nature and all provincial campgrounds, Lots a camping.
Now with two kids seem the perfect time for the LR3.

(Pictures From When I got it)
Found a Couple issues when I take a look at it to buy it (so much more to come)
After making the deal I knew:
- Parking Brake dead (amber and red lights on dash, When press button nothing happens, the PCM makes no noise)
- High Low Gear switch doesn't work (when pressed nothing happens, is always in high / Have Faults with TCCM, not sure if is related to it)
- Transmission Fault on Cluster (TCCM has code P173E-00 Ignition key lock solenoid - circuit low / Every time I try to Clear the code Transmission fault appears on Cluster) Transmission Shifts good.
- Remote Key not working (have to open with key on the door, central looking works by pressing buttons on centre dash)
- Rear Tail lights the on from the right looks like one bulb is shorted, kinda melt the plastic a bit.
First Thing I did was Buy Icarsoft Tool LR v3.0, the GAP tool is a must for what I can see but the Icarsoft seems very capable and I got it for great deal 150CAD used.
I bought my D3 when my company car lease was expiring. Apart from the shock on fuel costs I have. Ever looked back. Only vehicle i would consider to replace it would be a new model defender 110 (but I’m kidding myself if I believe we can ever afford one ). Great cars. When you have worked all the niggles out and a few more random ones. You will love it!

Thank you!!
I’m seeing allot of the new defenders around here, go looking car, much better then new discovery’s in my opinion.
Have lots pictures to post (looks like can only post 3 at time) and things that I already have done to post it.
I’m also creating this post to keep updating with all troubleshooting will be doing, as well looking for advise be posting symptoms and possible solutions that I’ll going to find on the way.
This forum already helped me so much just by using the search tab.

Personally like the v8 and I’m more familiar with it. All trucks at work are v8. Not so happy with fuel consumption but is the “little” trade off I guess

The RUST!!!
I new that was rust under drivers side carpet, was praying to not be so so bad, here’s what I found…
After stripping interior and cutting all loose rust thats what I had left..
Decided to attempt to repair it as the body structure wasn’t affected apart from the driver seat support at left side, (made a bracket to it).

Wiring!!
After all this effort connect the battery and tried to start the car and nothing…
Emergency lights were blinking, when turned key I could hear clicking sound from glove box area and the doors were clicking too.
Plug the scanner and was getting lots q codes but I suspected it didn’t start because “lost communication with Immobilizer”
What I did:
- checked all grounds that I disconnect and reconnect on the B pillars
-clean transfer case module (some corrosion there)
-check battery ground cable
- check wiring splices along drivers side floor (where all the damage were).
- hard reset
Connected battery again, key on the ignition, cluster showed “key on the ignition” message and the car started!!

MORE WIRING!!! Please Help
Now I’m dealing with wire loom on the passager side.
Bunch of splices in here.
This particular one has black insulation with black a read and a bare wire running g inside.
Is the bare cable supposed to be bare at the splice. I’m a bit confused
