Improving Economy of my D3
I am interested to hear from anyone who has had experience of remapping a D3 for better fuel economy. I am going to be doing 40k plus miles a year and would rather keep my beloved Disco rather than splash out on a more economic car. I am not sure what is achievable from a D3 and what are the pay off's.

Hi, try getting in touch with one of the site sponsors such as Pete Bell of Bell Auto Services as I know he offers such a re-map "UNDERSTEER" ---is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" -is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" ------------is how far you take the fence with you.

some remap give you better MPG some not, mine after a few good brim to brims keeps on giving 29-30.5 MPG with or without map applied, diesel out of any pump around town
next step is K&N filter and big Allisport intercooler and than see what happens
cheers
I've never got more than about 27 out of an auto and that's on a long motorway trip - soon drops down when back on A roads.

I average 31.4 on Motorway runs, (I do about 3k miles per month) just got to remember to keep it @ 2000 rpm, works out at 73mph! 28.7 round town driving. I've always used Shell V Power Diesel.

I always drive as fast as I possibly can on every occasion ...I find this very efficient 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Good point DG .
Perhaps the true cost/mpg debate can be had by time/effort/cost Logarithm

Fit a nice 8mm Sump Guard for aerodynamic purposes.....the black powder coat version is more streamline......
Or for even more streamline go for a 6mm one, apparently the drag coefficient is tiny compared to the 8mm especially in black powder coated format Club Exped trailer

The 6mm version does not create enough drag on the front to provide sharp enough steering, it also makes the back end light around sweeping bends.......

My manual regularly hits 31mpg.
Did Cornwall last weekend with me and SWMBO, 4 wheels for methley, and all our crap (my one small bag and her wardrobe, kitchen sink and Imelda Marcos shoe collection) and hit 30.5mpg.
K & N and nail the D3 throught he revs once a week with BP Ultimate in it.
Clears the crap and really opens the old girl up (not SWMBO obviously )

Just did a run from Edinburgh down to the Norfolk Broads and got 35.7 mpg down the way and 35.4 mpg up the way .
(Just goes to prove it IS uphill to Scotland !)
I used "Sport" on the auto box which does seem to be more efficient than normal auto.
Tried to stick to about the legal mph when I could but there was a fair bit of roadworks which knocked the average mph down quite a bit.Something that doesn't drink diesel and doesn't cost a bloody fortune everytime it needs serviced / fixed. But hey ....I got a deal from the leasing company on my D3 that you guys can only dream about !

Get typically 29mpg cruising at 60mph, 27.5mpg @ 75mph and 24.5mpg @ 85mph. Headwind/tailwind can increase/decrease mpg by one or two. Record best 36.0 (60 with strong tailwind) worst 12.5 (200 miles of tracks & sand in Tunisia). Don't trust the computer, it can be over optimistic by up to 3mpg. It lies I tell yeah, it lies. Sooper Dooper diesel increases mpg by 10% but up here it is not readily available do CBAed.
Best tip for better mpg, change your air filter at 15k intervals, not the moronic 45k interval that LR thinks you should use.
