Incartec FK-853-6 - anyone fitted one?

Hi

I am looking at retrofitting a double din CarPlay head unit to my 2008.5MY HSE.

I currently have the following OEM kit on board:

Logic 7 system and speakers
DVD player
Rear Seat Entertainment
Hybrid TV
Bluetooth phone
Standard 6 CD changer in dash
Sat Nav

The sat nav is on the blink - needs to reboot after a short stop which it does itself. It’s also a bit outdated now on roads etc so I use my iThing to do all my nav anyway.

I am looking to fit a new double din head unit but want / need to retain all but the sat nav on the existing touchscreen. I also would like to avoid losing all my logic 7 speakers.

Having gone through the forums and web, it seems like my best bet is the Incartech FK-853-6 set up. I think it keeps all the functions I want (bar the clock of course) but wondered if anyone else had fitted one and if so what was their experience?

Are there any alternatives out there with similar or better functionality?

Thanks in advance for your help

Cheers

Andy

Firstly, I want to mention that this is based on my online research only - I have not fitted any of these - I actually ended up opting for an Android unit to replace the 4x4/sat nav display, which should hopefully be turning up this week.

The issue with this kit is that it comes with an "Amplifier bypass cable (20-314)", meaning you will be losing the Logic 7 and factory amp. This means your new head unit will power "front door speakers, the rear door speakers and the rear roof speakers" directly, so quality will be based on the built in amp in your new head unit, and you need to install an additional amp if you want to retain the sub.

If you want to go the double din route, the best looking kit I have seen is Connects2 CTKLR06, as this includes their adapter which converts the head units audio out (RCA) to the Logic 7 fibre optic system (MOST25). Again I haven't fitting this, so can't speak of the quality, there is some info on this forum and online, but not a great deal.

You say you want/need to keep the 4x4/sat nav screen, but also that it is on its way out, is there a particular reason as that would rule out the style of Android screen I have gone for? I will do a write up when it arrives and is installed, so if you aren't in a rush I may have some good info soon. I went for the Android screen over the Connects2 and a double din head unit as I wasn't convinced the viewing angle would be good for a screen where the factory head unit is - plus it works out a lot cheaper.

@ph1ll: thanks. Looked at this but it says that the OEM screen will just display the LR logo. If that’s the case and it doesn’t work as a touchscreen anymore I will lose access to the TV, DVD and RSE as well as 4x4 info, which I want to avoid. The incartec system seems to allow this with only sacrificing the sat nav which I am happy to do. Granted I lose the Logic 7 amp but I only lose the centre speaker - logic 7 is after all a movie 5.1 system. All other speakers work as before because the crossovers are local to the speakers and not in the logic 7 amp - or so i understand it? Yes, I will need to add a separate sub amp but that’s quite straightforward.

Not sure all out an android screen to replace the OEM touchscreen for all the same reasons - operating the rest of the cars a/v systems that I want to keep. Happy to be educated on this point of course.

Hmm, I had missed that, that would be a pretty big shortcoming. It seems that will all the aftermarket options there is a compromise to be had, and its just down to which compromise suits you best.

Note with the incartech option it states:

Quote:
NOTE, this kit will retain the use of the original navigation and vehicle settings screen, however, the navigation audio will be lost. An additional NAVAMP interface will be required to retain the navigation audio.

Might be worth reaching out to them to see if you need that additional interface for the TV and DVD audio - I dont have TV/DVD so not sure if the audio feeds through the screen or is direct to the head unit/amp.

Update from Connects2:

“The OEM TV functionality will be lost this may be the same case with the DVD screen unless they are independent and run/output sound through maybe headphones? . But if it is all controlled by the original screen(Seems to be the case by the information you have provided) then I would say you will lose everything due to the screen been dormant once the original head unit has been removed.”

So a Connects2 solution won’t let me continue to use any of the RSE etc. Which is kind of not what I am aiming for.

Back to incartec perhaps...

the headunit is the master MOST control for the TV control and bluetooth etc.

To get round this, people split the old headunit in half, keeping the rear half plugged in (and stored in the top glovebox I think - or around there)

From Connects2's response, it seems in keeping with the advice from Pete K that the factory head unit is the central control - in which case surely removing it for either the Connects2 or incartec solution would be a problem.

The Incartec solution specifically sets out to keep the relevant part of the head unit to keep the functionality intact as far as I can see.

Losing the sat nav audio is one thing, but if losing everything else OEM is a result then that’s a none starter. Waiting to hear from Incartec.

Update:

Found this very useful forum response on an RRS site.

https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post535963.html

Whilst not a D3, it seems to do all I need and keep the OEM bits intact?

If the original head unit is dead does that automatically turn the sat nag function off too?

It's not the best option in the world, but after a minute or two, you can follow the procedure to get into the diagnostic pin screen (press and hold on screen where the menu title would be for 5-7 seconds, then press the nav hard button for 1-2 seconds). You cancel out of the pin screen and it will drop you into the main menu but with Nav functionality not working. 4x4 info and other stuff will work until the car is restarted (or more specifically, the entertainment system).
