Increased brake dust on front wheels after new disc/pads |
|
Just wanted some reassurance prior to me next trip. Had these done yesterday using OEM LR bits, both front alloys display a reasonable covering of the black stuff, car runs ok, no low MPG even with an empty trailer behind, but a couple of obvious questions:
1) Given a certain period of "bedding in" would one assume a bit of excessive dust for the first 200 plus miles
2) Given no great or obvious level of any brake dust to the rear alloys, could the above indicate that its braking only on the fronts
Footnotes
Not been using the EPB for some while, the rear pads are fine, all cleaned but the rear discs will want changing next time around.
On a trip to scotland and back this weekend, will keep an eye on the old heat issue of the front wheels (just in case).
will take photos of the clean fronts and then when arrived home (to give some more obvious comparism.

You will usually get a fair covering until the pads have fully bedded in. There will be little brake dust on the rear wheels as the front do most of the braking anyway, and the rears dont get used that much
As long as they are not binding, then I wouldnt worry My D3 Build Thread

Despite new pads having been fitted the pots in the callipers may not be fully retracting. There is considerable force to push the pads against discs but really only air pressure to push them back. The new pads wear very quickly until the calliper is only sliding back on its "free" range of travel. Close mechanical examination required to positively identify this fault.
