Infotainment screen stopped working - fuse #64 issue

Hey Guys,

Not sure if this is a known fault but something wierd happend to my Disco 4 last weekend.

The infotainment screen and all related functions just suddenly stopped working.

Could not find any fuses under the passenger side fuse box blown.

But then I noticed that the blue 15A fuse in #64 was not present.

Replaced it with a spare and the system is all working again.

So the question is, where did that fuse go to.

It's not down in the footwell, it's not down behind the dash area, so it's obviously dropped in a gap and his hidden somewhere.

Question is, why did it fall out in the first place?

Does anyone else have issues with fuses, just falling out?

Is the Fuse anything to do with the Infotainment Screen, I'm saying that as a few months ago, the screen in mine stopped working, I started the engine, the screen was completely dead, drove a mile, stopped it immediately started it again, still dead, drove for fifteen miles or so, screen completely dead all this time, stopped again, for around fifteen minutes, started it again all fine, it's never done it again (Touch Wood).

Fuse #64 detail info

Well the manual just refers to it as the audio unit fuse.

I tried turning the car off, and doing the lock and wait reset which sometimes works, but it had no effect.

The infotainment system was just plain dead.

The other annoying thing was that other functions such as the reversing camera, and the park sensors of course also did not work,,and with my wife driving this big old bus they are needed!

I hope it's just the fuse in yours too washpipe!

Just one piece of advice, they are in a nightmare place to get access too.

The two large wiring looms almost completely obscure the fuse locations.

Also the red fuse tool is hard to use, as you hand blocks the view.

I lost count of how many times I dropped it into the black abyss!

In the end I used a pair of long nose pliers, still tricky, but managed with some wiggling!

Fuse 64 is fitted in mine, the Fairies must have returned it. Thumbs Up

So my total screen failure was just a glitch, hopefully.

Back in the day quite a few of us decided that this was a Disco essential:

Damn good idea Robbie!

Thanks for the pointer I might have to invest in a pair!

The funny thing is, in 7 years of ownership I never once changed a fuse on my Disco 3.

But this is the second fuse I have changed in just over 1 year on ownership of my Disco 4!

Hope it's not a sign of things to come!

I would be more than happy if every year I only had to change a couple of fuses, definitely live with that.

Re infotainment:
When starting, the system does a voltage check, if the voltage drops below (IIRC) 10.6v when cranking, the system goes into "survival" mode, just as the human body does and shuts down anything that is none essential until the battery voltage has increased to (IIRC) 12v. So far from anything being wrong the system is actually working correctly. You may even find that after driving for a while the screen will come back on its own, but other things may not.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
