Audio is DEAD

My audio system is dead - no display, no radio, no CD..
When I return from 2weeks holiday, I found there was massive leak of rain water through the sun roof while my Disco 3 was parked on my steep drive way facing down to the road. the driver's floor was full of water....
When I started the engine, there was no NAV screen, no audio screen but all other worked well. The IIDtool could not see the NAV and Audio ECU, not found.
After drying up the wet, I did hard reset of disconnect/reconnect of the battery and the NAV was back on and works beautiful but audio is still DEAD. even there is only blank screen on the audio, I could eject CDs and the volume control for NAV works fine.
IIDTool could communicate with the NAV and audio ECUs without any fault.
I still cannot get any display on the audio screen, no radio/CD/clock available.
Instead of making an expensive visit to the dealer, I would like to know where the possible problem is....

Thanks in advance.

Ed

with that amount of water for that amount of time it could have corroded splice joints in the harness. also the audio amp is under drivers seat easy to get to if you lift seat height. remove the fibre optic connector and see if its emitting a red light with ignition on if not then you need to check if the front screen is emitting a red light as this starts off the MOST ring. then its on to checking power and grounds at the modules.

Thanks gstarg-7 for your comment.
I can see the red light from the Power Amp and connector to the pre amp - the power amp under the seat is OK but the pre amp is faulty. the pre amp audio needs to be replaced.
my son told me that all the window was full of mist few days when the car was inundated with rain water through sunroof. considering the amount of the water in the car, it is amasing that there is no other damage to the electirical system including the power amp sitting under the seat. the extreme moisture inside of my Disco might caused some problem with the audio pre amp which used to have a minor hiccups like right audio channel getting muted and when volume is turned up higher then it comes back. the Retail price of the audio in Australia is $1,700 but my dealer offered me a replacement from UK for $660 including GST which I think fair price.
I don't agree with many comments of unreliable Disco. bucket full of water on the floor for almost 2 weeks and no major problem with the vehicle, that is very reliable and well built!

Went skiing, vehicle outside for a week in -5 to -10 (so not so cold) and then would not start (coughed and caught on several cylinders but wouldn't stay running. Recovered to a Renault garage who diagnosed fuel gelling (probably) or maybe faulty glow plugs (to be tested by our LR specialist later - DO NOT LET ANYONE WITHOUT THE PROPER TOOL TRY TO REMOVE GLOWPLUGS - they are very fine and snap easily leaving you with a head off job and mucho dinero to pay). (NB it's true we had cheap supermarket fuel from warm southern france).
Garage returned car working after leaving it inside overnight to warm up a bit, treating fuel system with anti-gel additive & water absorber additive and recharging battery. BUT gave us back the car with no power to (basic) audio panel which includes clock. They had no idea how to get the audio panel working repeating that we needed a radio code, which of course you don't. Didn't want to know about responsibility either. Couldn't find any fuses to check (No 53 removed but didn't help) so we completed our 8-hour journey back without radio/clock. Now had time and a good connection to research the issue. A 'reset' using battery terminals (or maybe just a disconnect would do it) as detailed elsewhere here cured the problem. (It looks as though they must have charged the battery in situ which gave either a spike or overheating to cause radio shutdown/self protect). Thank you Forumites! (and from what I've read elsewhere cheap fuel gelling in Disco 3's IS a recognised issue (never had a prob with our beloved Disco II though...)[/i]

LR3 No sound from audio.

Hello.
I own an LR3 HSE 2009. I am getting no sound from the audio. Everything is working i.e. Sat nav, amps, radio, cd etc but no sound! Volume and tone do not work.
I took it to the dealers and they did a hard reset but said they needed to dismantle the dashboard???
However, the audio did come back and worked fine for a day. I know that this is a common fault but could someone offer some advice? Is this software related? Could it be the bluetooth! When it wants, everything works fine! I have a Harman Kardon fitted.
Many thanks!!

replacing rotary coupling

Hi all,
my first post on here as I've just bought a disco 3. I also have problems with the steering wheel toggle switches controlling the audio system and I think it's the steering rotary coupling as mentioned on this thread. The left and right arrow toggles, volume down and mode buttons don't work on the right hand panel of my steering wheel. I'm not bothered about mode and volume as I can operate them from the audio head unit manually, but the arrow buttons access the personalised settings menu so are pretty useful. Steering rotary couplings are readily available to purchase on-line but I was wondering if anyone has ever fitted one before. I've found a video of removing the steering wheel face, airbag and switch housings on youtube, but it doest go as far as the rotary coupling.
Any help most appreciated
Cheers,
Edmond

Bit late to this party, but just wanted to register my massive thanks for the advice in this and other threads about 'dead' infotainment system. Screen went off, no display or response to buttons, just did a 'hard reset' (http://www.disco4.com/wiki/Hard_Reset) and all come back perfectly without the need for expensive visit to dealer. Even bought my errant analogue clock back into line!

Battery warning - System shutting down

I am facing a similar issue on my MY08 D3 harmankardon with the 6-CD changer.

Sporadically, with no recognizeable coincidence, the satnav shows "Battery warning - System shutting down". IID Tool finds a stored error "MOST optic fibre connection faulty". Clearing the fault doesn't help. But after a while, it comes up again.

Do you think a hard reset would help? Or is there indeed a faulty optical connection somewhere?

Apparently I solved it. At least my issue, it seems by now.

I resetted the hifi/satnav unit twice (2nd time by accident) and set the voltage in the hidden menu from its 13.somewhat to 11.8V. that was two weeks ago.

Until now, no more battery warning, no more shutting down. And strangly, no more MOST optic fibre faults stored! How's that? Doesn't make any bloody sense huh?

I'll keep you posted, if it's really gone.
