Insurance for "chipped" D3's.
I am struggling to get what I regard as a sensible quote for my D3 if I have it chipped. I am currently with Land Rover (aka Royal Sun Alliance) who have suggested an increase over about 30%. £650 + or -. Other quotes have exceeded £1,000 and some of the excesses are ridiculous. No Green Laning has also been quoted to me.
I am over 70 years of age have had a licence since 1949. Protected NCD and one small claim (£600) with TD5 five years ago. Mileage is very low, mainly caravanning and only two drivers. Is anyone prepared to PM me with name of insurance Co. and the premium being charged. PM's will save cluttering up the site with information that most of you will not require nor will it be of great interest except to me. I will respond to any info sent. Thanks.

I am with NFU for less than 600 quid. Green lane cover included (but thats a con, because ALL green lanes are public highways - all insurance HAS to cover you)
NFU give 2 years new for old, which is a bonus if you live in Stockport apparently

NFU also cover you for any non competitive off road events. Adrian Flux I have found will not cover for an HSE off road as its too expensive. (Guess whose renewal is up!)DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I remember someone posting that Privelege only charged £40 more for the chipped D3.
I am with them at the moment and my renewel came yesterday £354 inc protected NCD (not chipped)
Tried NFU they wanted £700

I'm with Esure they were fine until I realised the quote was only 12K miles I do about 20K. The premium lept up to within £20 of NFU (unlimited miles) and off road cover and new for old. Comparing like for like is very difficult, but I felt NFU gave the best deal.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

2 years new for old is better than most. You were not around here last April when my house was broken into, and all my computers, cameras, and the keys to my D3 and Mini Cooper S were stolen, the scroats got the Mini, but could not get the D3 going.
You will notice from my signature that I now have a new Mini care of Tesco motor insurance
If they had have got the Disco then I would have probably got both cars back, because the Disco has a Trakker fitted, and the Mini did not. My new Mini does.

Have to say I bought the 3 year GAP insurance at point of signing - £350 - I wasn't going to, but the salesman convinced SWMBO and I was overruled! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

NFU were a joy, and offer very high cover for little cost. Most companies are looking for specific customers anyone outside of that they will rate heavily. All the direct type companies fit this bill, that is how they remain cheap but only for certain people.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Discovery 3 Insurance
Have just been quoted £257.08 for my new Disco 3 HSE collecting in March by Land Rover Insurance. Max no claims with NCD protection, £300 excess. My wife is paying £464 for a Discovery 2 from Admiral, she has max no caims as well.

...but when I went to do the actual swapover from the C8 this week, the price was the same, but hey presto - a compulsory £150 excess had magically appeared - on top of my £100 voluntary one Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
