Insurance Renewal time

And the quote from Admiral - Whom I have been with for the last 5 years was rubbish. Almost 300 quid more than last year.

Done some searching via the comparison sites etc and have got a whole lot of significantly cheaper quotes. Called Admiral and for the first time ever, they were unable to better my cover!

A Plan have got me circa 900 with COVEA - but they don't seem to have good reviews online.

Anyone here with Directline who have given me a sub 700 rate? Also, anyone used Brightside who were cheapest on the comparisons ...

NFU are the cheapest for me. A London postcode may not be to their liking though.

Just been trough the same.

£594 renewal (Hastings).

Really couldnt be arsed doing whole comparison thing, so called them up.

30 seconds later and it was £401.

Nothing to do or set up. Winner as far as I am concerned.

A number of larger re-insurers have apparently pulled out of the motor market.

Best to shop around the usual places.
 D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven

Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

You must be following me around by a couple of years, Admiral, had a nightmare screen fitting with them, price kept going up, jumped over to A Plan, but the following year the policy went sillly, renewed with Direct Line last year, renewal has just hit the doormat, increased by £50 to £465.

Not accepting it yet, A Plan coming back to me and last year Admiral offered me £100 off to go back, had appproched neither this year, they called me but would have to be a very goood quote from Admiral for me to renew.

I had my D4 with A Plan at Thatcham, renewed it in January for £437.80
I have just changed the D4 for a D5 and contacted them to update the vehicle details on my present Insurance and was told they would have to cancel my present policy and do a complete new search.
After an hour I heard nothing so rang them to see what they came up with but during the meantime I did a search on my PC and came up with a new 12 month policy with LV for £504.00.
A Plan told me they would have to cancel my present policy and refund £307 but the cost to take out a new policy would cost me £700 + with LV !!
All rather strange methinks. I would have expected them to just change the vehicle details with my present company and adjust the premium slightly.

Not surprising, I was insured with Esure prior to getting a D4, Esure wouldn’t insure me, apparently a six month old D4 was on ther list of vehicles they wouldn’t insure, they cancelled the policy with immediate effect, refunded in full, no penalties. Admiral on the other hand didn’t have a problem and was actually cheaper to insure than the FL2 was with Esure.
A Plan this time round came in £300 more than Direct Line Neutral

I'm with Direct Line who, for me, were cheapest by far. Even the specialist Land Rover brokers were up in 4-figures.

Every underwriter has their 'ideal risk', the person and vehicle they really want to insure - which could be a 37 year-old insurance salesman with a three-year old Ford Mondeo LX and a clean licence in Bracknell.

The further your profile is from the 'ideal', the more you'll pay. When you see the truly ridiculous premiums being quoted, that's the underwriter saying "we really don't want you, but if you insist we'll make it worth our while".

No one insurer will be the cheapest for everyone, and make sure you read the terms and conditions if there's something you particularly want to be covered or are thinking of changing your car mid-term to check what admin fees are payable. Or if the policy will be cancelled if you make a total-loss claim etc.

If your vehicle is mostly standard, use the comparison sites to shop around, but also look at Direct Line and Aviva, neither of which are on comparison sites. Double-check the policy you're offered though as I've come very close to buying what I thought was a fully-comp policy at a good price only to find it was actually TPO as the insurer ignored my selections.

And if you're thinking of going TPFT, get a price for fully-comp too as, bizarrely, it can often be cheaper.

If you go via a cash back web site then you can often get a little extra back on the premium once you sign on the line too, especially from the big names.
