Interior Lights Problem

I just became the proud owner of a 2006 Dicovery 3 (or LR3 as it's known here in the USA). I have one really annoying problem with the interior lights, namely that the "extra" interior lights (map/reading lights, vanity mirror light and glovebox light) only come on when the front and middle dome lights are lit. In other words, if one of the passengers wants to turn their reading light on, this is only possible if the entire vehicle interior is lighted. The service guys at the local dealer say that the interior lighting is working normal, but this just doesn't make any sense to me. Any ideas?

sounds like your dealer doesn't know......

Mine all work independantly of each other. Front and rear map lights. I don't know if the vanity mirror light always comes on without the main car lights on though. Never use them myself........ Whistle

I'm not sure if this is the answer, but press and hold the front centre light button until the interior lights flash on and off. This is how I disable the interior lights when leaving a door open for extended periods, whilst cleaning or camping etc. Pressing and holding the button enables/disables the feature.

Thanks, but that's not it. Whether the lights are in "Automatic" mode or "Off", the behaviour is the same. Bottom line is that unless the front and middle dome lights are both on, none of the other interior lights will come on.
The sales rep mentioned something about a "showroom mode", but he didn't know anything more about it.

Still have no resolution on this. Can somebody at least confirm that their Disco3/LR3 interior lights operate independently of the dome lights?

Suggest you go to the dealer and ask the service guys to demonstrate this 'normal working' in one of the LR3s on the forecourt/in the showroom. I suspect they will fail, as it's not meant to be like that.
