iPhone 3G(s) and iPod Touch 2G not charged by iPod connector

JLR are aware of the problem, a fix should be in production by October 2009, according the dealer - but only on new vehicles. For the early adopters, they suggest you spend another 20 quid on an adapter!

How long has the iPhone 3G been out? How long has it been known the charging pins are different to previous iPods? How long has the D4 been out...?

This isn't JLR's fault, this is caused by Apple changing the charging spec at little/no notice to the developers.

Remember that the spec for the D4's cable will have set a long time ago, well before the Touch 2G and iPhone 3GS were broken by Apple.

I'd imagine that any solution from JLR would be more than £20 anyway.

The change has been known about for 15 months at least... how long do they need to stick 5V on the USB pin (especially given they already have a USB port next to the iPhone connector?)

It's not just JLR; many major manufacturers still have the issue.
I'm sure that if you moan enough, you'll get one f.o.c. from your dealer, but do you really want your card marked when connecting a £200-£400 device to a £30-50k car at the extra cost of £20?
Chances are, at the next price review, it'll be rolled in to a price hike on the kit.

ICE development timescales are longer than 15 months, so the D4 iPod connection is (as we've seen) working from the older spec. This happens for everything, not just iPod connectivity Smile

I don't know who are supplying the D4 iPod kit, Dension provided it for the D3 and they got caught out as well, even for their own retail kits, never mind those supplied on a pre-arranged, probably volume-based contract to an OEM.

I've been hassling TLO for the new kit on and off for a while now.

Hopefully he'll have supplies soon. Thumbs Up

I bought a Belkin one which claimed to do the same thing but didn't work Sad

The Scosche one you have linked to has a list of compatible OEM units on its website. LR is not listed but Jaguar is. I'm making no hard and fast claims but I'm fairly certain that the guts of the ICE/Infotainment on the D4 is the same as in the XF so I think it will do the trick.

LR have now pulled the ipod connector kit for the D3 & RRS (VPLAE0001)

they came up against this Apple issue of changing the charging cycle for 3Gs phones and have decided that no money is available to redesign for what they now class as an old model Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes so instead of just releasing the kit again for non 3Gs phones they withdrew from sale. Twisted Evil

They obviously had issues with the D4 as well but got round that by telling customers they need to buy a seperate charger...i beleive for later in the build cycle for D4 this will be addressed

Maybe someone should remind them that the D3 was not an old model when they stopped making cradles for the pti kit. This is another not dissimilar example of why customers get seriously p Censored d off with LR (and others). The cost of sorting this would be quite small and is good for customer loyalty, the point they are missing is that if people decide that they don't like being treated like this, they will often switch brands and then the servicing and aftersales/parts income from that customer also disappears.

Or maybe they just want everyone to go aftermarket, in which case you might as well buy a base model and a faultmate and spec the car up yourself.

don't go there SJR Laughing

i have spent numerous hours of my life trying to convince that it would be a simple solution, surely to fix to allow D3 & RRS to continue to use the connector kit and keep everyone happy....

falling on deaf ears though as the money is just not there and to be honest i think most of the ones i sold (93 last year and 48 this year till they cancelled) were to D3 members and the rest of the country seemed to deny they existed as other dealers were very poor in explaining the operation so thought it easier to pretend it did not exist.

Typical LR, are they still doing just the leads without the holders by any chance?

Nick, was VPLAE0001 still made by Dension - was it the same kit as the earlier one but with a plug instead of a cradle?
