iPod Connections

My 2010 D4 has the older type of iPod connection, with the thick, curly lead, which is becoming a pain as phones grow in size etc. Is it possible to swap this for the later type which is more of a double USB socket (one labelled iPod).

Thanks,

Nigel.

I don’t believe you can change the plug. However, you can get a non-curly cable that fits on eBay which takes up much less space and can be velcroed to the underside of the lid. And you can also add a Bluetooth adapter so you can stream music through that and not plug in at all! Thumbs Up

Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

If you do want the Bluetooth streaming, the Bovee unit is the one I got after reading recommendations on here. It's awesome, and gives you full control of the music on your phone.

In fact, it looks as though Amazon are now selling it with the cable as well - you just need to check this is definitely the right plug on the end.....

hi,

do you know whether there is a cable available that fits the new iphone lightning cable type - and or can an adaptor be used from the original cable. separate but related note, can a replacement audio unit be put in so car play etc can be used, the LRD4 satnav etc is hardly class leading. Bow down

Hi UKKiwi. Just use the 30pin to lightning adapter. Definitely best to get the genuine Apple one. That’s what I was using before I got the Bluetooth adapter.

Not sure about a replacement head unit - it would need to work with things like the orignal steering wheel controls, amp etc. changing all of them might get very expensive very quickly! Best go into a decent car Audi place, there are plenty in Auckland.

thanks for that, do you know if using the bovee allows you to use apple/google maps (audio queues only i assume), and if so can you stream music and directions at the same time? Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Not sure sorry, I just use the on board nav if I ever need to. I’m sure someone else here will know.

If it works with headphone I expect it would.

Another one for the Bovee! Thanks for the recommendation. It’s also cured the problem we have with our Mini following one of Apple’s so called ‘updates’! Thumbs Up
