my iPod solution, so happy |
|
As many off you probably know the OEM iPod solution sucks, almost crashed twice trying to change songs on the iPod, then started looking for something more user friendly, easy to install, not really too mechanically inclined here, and something that will not change much the OEM look of the dash.
After much research I decided on the Pioneer Avis F500BT, it is a portable car nav unit with a great touch screen and a host of futures, and I found one for 200 $ in Amazon. Installation was piece off cake since it comes with all cables etc, so I installed it on the driver side cupholder. For now all the cables go under the rubber mats but in the future I will try to move everything including the ipod in the armrest storage compartment.
Using for some time now and has made a huge difference, full control of the ipod via a huge screen and with volume and forward/backward control on one easy to control button, besides car has 2 nav systems now. I have pictures not sure how to post them.
Cheers[/img]

for some people might be okay , but comparing to the way you can control the ipod via any other factory systems, idrive for BMW for example, where you can see all your albums and songs on the large screen and scroll down and pick and choose the one you want to listen, LR solution is from the stone age.

The LR one is 'functional' (in that it plays the MP3 files) but something that allows track name data to be visible would be even better

LR one's fine... IPOD on shuffle or playlist and controled from the wheel, eyes on the road. Selecting albums & tracks on the move is as about as safe as watching the telly.. Especially on UK roads! Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

Different strokes for different folks, as I said earlier for some people the LR solution might be fine, personally was looking for something closer to the D4 level of ipod integration.
Pictures in my gallery now for anyone interested. Solution uses the aux port and so is fully intergrated with the rest of the car, when a phone call is received the sound of the ipod is muted etc.
Cheers

I agree with Corinthian, I would very much like to have a better solution for the iPod. Leaving it on shuffle may be a nice solution but most of the time I want to choose a particular album or artist.
Integration is the main issue here. I would like to have all controls in the same place. This is the way all on board systems are going, even LRs. It is nicer to access everything from the same screen instead of having to look for and hold separate devices for a gps navigation, cell phone, iPod, etc. Marcelo Mller

Yes, I tried one in the dealers on a sport but it does not charge my G3
Strange this, as the D3 ACM only seems to charge an iPhone 3G and not the 3GS why is that , was going to upgrade to the GS not not now. 110 XS Utility

Hi Corinthian
The unit looks to be very close to the transmission lever. Does it not interfere with your shifting?

Not at all, no interference from the lever, never have bump the unit either when I put in park or take it out of park. The cup holder has enough depth and this helps alot, just removed the sleeve. Only "issue" is that you cannot rest your right foot to the center console, does not bother me, and got used to it now.

Hi guys, i was looking at one of these as a solution to fill the cubby box, where the factory sat nav goes. does anyone know if this unit will fit in the cubby box.
I want to hook in reverse camera, ipod and it already has sat nav.
Feedback will be great thanks guys.
