The decent ones in Salcombe are all along the harbour, so you can probably check them all - I'd go to the Fortescue. In Kingsbridge, probably the Hermitage in the centre. This time of year and in those places, the pretty ones with a view will be rammed on a nice day - I tend to stay out of the South Hams July/August unless absolutely essential. Heritage = done. Some interesting characters in there. Like the bar in Star Wars

Fortescue = nice ale and outside patio garden. Too many grockles like you say...including me

Both had good ale quality

Crabshell in Kingsbridge has good South Hams Wild Blonde
