What is it? RHD D3 v8 HSE in aux bat box next to ABS pump |
|
Hi,
just b een trying to locate somewhere to fix an auxillary fuse box for some accessories that will be powered from my auxillary battery.
In what I can only describe as the auxillary battery box on a RHD D3 V8 HSE I've come across a component that apears to be leaking either an acid or alkali substance causing white corrosion on a bolt. It sits between the ABS pump and the firewall / bulkhead and has a two core wire with pug attached to it. Irregularly shaped and about the size of a cig packet it is black and is fixed diagonally in the horizontal plane.
I am wondering what it is and whether the corrosion is normal.
My guess is that it is either ECU related or alarm related as the only reason for an acid / alkali I can think of is for a battery - perhaps backup battery for ECU or alarm?
If anyone knows I'd be grateful for some information. I might be able to supply a photo if it helps.

Got a pictures ID? LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

That's it...
There is a nut on the top of it something like a 10mm - it is very corroded and the corrosion is very localised - it is covered in a white powder. I am in some doubt as to whether this is normal.
Any ideas?

So exactly where has your orange taxi been? maybe more to do with beach driving than a 'defect'
