This makes it sound like a non-runner. Was there a V8 diesel variant? The V5 and MOT section are blank. At that price, if the normal death watch beetle bits are sound, it'll be a good buy but say goodbye to a swag load of money if it isn't. (From one one who has rebuilt a D3 from new chassis up) Very Happy

Chassis looks like it has been given a jetwash and a very thin spray of waxoyl or similar, with plenty of over spray. Hides a lot, waxoyl Whistle

That said, it's not pretending to be tax exempt and late series 3s are going for £800 - £1900 as you still pay full RFL on them so not a million miles off the mark. There are hundreds of these out there, so come up with your wish list and start looking. That way you can join me in having a S3 "project" sat untouched in your workshop for 18 months Big Cry

I'm pretty certain thats not the original engine for that vehicle. There were military V8 engines, 3500cc, petrol and they were fitted to the 101's. V8 in a series did not come until late 80's, in the Stage one, and afaik, the military did not have them.

The red plates around the firewall on the interior photo's are probably covering the sections that need to be cut away to squeeze the V8 in.

It looks sound enough, and there is nothing wrong with a good V8 conversion - I have seen and heard some really fantastic vehicles.

At that price, if the chassis is as good as advertised and there is no rot in the bulkhead, its worth it as a project.

Odd, the engine looks like Rover V8 (I've got one outside Whistle )- but Diesel? Never heard of that!

I think it may be a typo as it certainly looks like spark plug leads in there...

Defo a typo error as I have never seen a diesel with a distributor, its an old Rover v8 with the twin stromberg carbs I agree with Gareth that this is not an original fit engine.

Agree with Gareth there never was a production 88" V8, only the 109" stage one's that had a flat front making them look likean early defender.

It is though definately a military refurb engine, the pale blue colour is the give away, I've had 3 Thumbs Up

The chassis seems to be blasted and covered in a Schultz of some sorts, i use a rubberised underseal on my 90 that looks very simular,

Geting these things running is the key, and the Rover V8 is a great engine, I had one in a series Lightweight Very Happy , the overdrive is a must to get a decent road speed unless you swap out the diffs from the 4.7 ratio to the 3.5's that the classic rangerover, Mk1 Disco or defenders use

As for he price, resonable to high IMO but the Overdrive alone if in good nick is worth £200- 250, and as Gareth says if you want a project to end up with a great fun car, as long as the chassis is sound its a good starting point,

Just be warned, my V8 2 seater space frame is now a 10YR project in bulid in the garage, I just never get the time for the finishing touches Big Cry

There was a rover V8 diesel (codename project iceberg) built in the late 70s along with perkins. If it was a V8 rover diesel the engine alone would be worth thousands! Shocked
only one i know of is in gaydon heritage center

Stop Press

Stop Press

Just had a call back from Seller - as confused as Rolling Eyes
In short, the original engine was a diesel, the present one is a V8, he thinks that it probably, might possibly be a petrol engine ..... Banging Head AND If it was a V8 diesel it would only be worth £2 - 300.

Only saying ! .... Whistle
