What Isn't Included In A Service?

New to this whole car ownership thing as have left a company car scheme. I know it sounds a stupid question but what isn't included in a service i.e. what should I budget for, are brake pads included? Help appreciated.

Forgot to mention. Bought a second hand 57 plate HSE, with 16k on the clock and expect to do about 30-35k miles per annum.

Cheers

Service is normaly oil and filters ..general check round the car ..rear bulbs were also included in mine .

Brakes are not covered ..unless its something that has failed ..brake pads / disks at your own expense.

Tyres at your expense .

Have a look here at the service schedule and then it should explain whats not included...

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic18516.html

but to answer your immediate question - brake pads are normal wear and tear so therefore not included, just like wipers etc

Ok, thanks. How long should brake pads last and how much(ish) would they be to replace?

Depends on your driving style obviously.
Think "average" is kinda 20k mark for pads and if you speak to AJS 4x4 or 10forcash they can do'em cheaper than LR prices for the same product.

Just had the rear pads changed before Tunisia, £116!!! I think they normally charge £160 so there may have been some miscommunication going on. Whistle

Another dull question please.

Approx. how much does a set of HSE 255/55 R19 (doing about 30-35k per annum, mostly motorway driving)cost and even more stupid question...If you buy them from some of the persons who advertise ehre but they are to far away to put them on, where do you go to get that work done and how much would you expect to pay a garage for that work. Embarassed

I think the problem with asking tyre bays to fit tyres you have purchased elsewhere, is their charges will negate any possible savings. You also then have the problem of disposal of your old tyres, again a tyre bay would charge you for this 'service'

Adding to what Gareth has said, if you have a problem later on, the tyre-fitter won't take responsibility because he didn't sell the tyres and the tyre-seller would probably have doubts (with good reason) over whether they were fitted correctly.

I've never liked the idea of buying tyres and fitting them in a different place. I would prefer to drive an hour or so out of my way to get them fitted from a site sponsor who will actually be motivated to help you out if you get a problem.

As you do so many miles, I'm sure one of your trips/visits will put you within reach of such a sponsor sooner or later. Thumbs Up

I have just ordered some of the latest Michelin 255's from ATS fitted for £170 each all in, but there is a but, they are on back order and I haven't got a clue when they might arrive. That said, I ordered Michelins, as this forum has recomended them for their longevity and comfort, which are far better than the Pirellis I'm lead to believe. So I am prepared to wait.

Alternatively, pick up a set of FFRR rims and tyres for a similar amount and then sell on your rims/put on MTRs for a spare set.
