Whats there? I was there a few weeks ago just saw the world biggest indoor ice climbing centre (Kinlochleven) a Loch and some hills Laughing

Oban is OK, Fort William is nothing special and spoilt by illogical planning, plus I thought I was actually in Poland Whistle

Nevis Range is interesting, was skiing up there but will be good walking and views via the cable car in the summer, but most outdoor activity will be spoilt with the fleas I guess Wink

That was exactly my thought when I was there last year.
Walking down the High Street, Polish is all you could hear from passers by talking to each other and people on their phones. Rolling Eyes
A very much changed place over recent years and not for the better and I'm not refering to the Poles, but the depression because of the economic climate.
I'm sure on the last count there were around 20% of shops on the High st closed, mix in the charity shops oh and a new local Morrisons and there isn't much of the decent shops left. Sad

Max - if you follow my thread here for the Isle of Skye

Mostly climbing/outdoor shops now all trying to outdo each other on price, I haven't been there for 30 yrs but what a dump it is now, we were there for a week and went out every day to get away from the vaggies and p!ss heads wanting to start fights in the pubs, a real shame, I thought Scotland had escaped what is happening elsewhere, but sadly no Rolling Eyes

Fill up in Luxembourg and a ferry from Zeebrugge (get some Belgian beers too) to Hull to avoid the trafic around London and have a relaxing sleep overnight whilst traveling.

Not the cheapest but at least you take a good 6 hours off the travel up the UK and save an overnight stop in the UK.

In terms of where, I'm a big fan of the Isle of Skye, over the top of Scotland is a good trip and take in some of the only real wilderness in the UK but then the Great Glen Fault from Skye, taking in Ben Nevis and up to Inverness is good. From there Spey-side distilleries and then down to Edinburgh.

you just saved me 50km, I usually do Rotterdam/Hull. But another vote for taking the overnight ferry if you're coming from Europe to the north of England or Scotland.....you miss out the worst roads too.

the roads are simply busy and fuel expensive. If you can avoid the M20, M25, M1/M11 as much as possible then you'll benefit.

I visit my parents in the north east of England and never drive via Dover or Eurotunnel.
