"How many onlookers do you need to rescue a Discovery"?
Might have helped if the D3 was steered slightly towards the beach, when they eventually got some momentum.

Disco Submarine
It would of been nice to see the outcome of that video. Did they manage to save it eventually ?
It did seem to be a valiant try, but as you say, what were they thinking. I suppose you try anything when you are in panic mode !
Good job the Disco's air intake was on the sheltered side, and were the electrics fubar'ed by then as the hazards were on. Maybe warning other vehicles and shipping of a collision risk.

Question is what was the vehicle doing on a beach below the normal high tide mark?
Some people seem to think it is fun to drive on the beach but have not got a clue about the potential dangers.
I cringe when I see people driving in the sea waves. Danger there is that the beach can shelf off quickly which you can not see with risk of roll over.
Racing down the beach? Sounds like fun? Yes until the car hits that narrow but deep gully in the sand from that small stream heading out to the sea.
Beach driving I keep out of the waves, stick to firm sand, keep an eye on tide plus continually looking for nearest escape route so I can get above normal high water mark as fast as possible.

I feel for the guy. 35 years ago, I took my trusty series IIA onto Aberdeen beach and quickly got stuck, with the tide racing in.
Ran across to the nearby golf course and the green keeper kindly came over with his tractor straight away. He showed me how to switch on the front free wheel hubs and I was quickly on my way

Surely someone else on the beach had a 4x4 with a rope?
I keep a 20 foot bit of synthetic winch rope under the middle seats - 'just in case'.Stew,
2010 D4 gone but I really loved it
Went back to Merc - C350 AMG
