I've Got A Cracked Alloy Wheel - Can It Be Repaired?
Hi All,
As title really I have a set of really nice discovery 4 alloys but one has a slight crack on the inside edge (no massive lumps missing just a regular crack). Has anyone on here had alloys welded? Obviously I would have it done at a reputable garage and not attempt myself but wondered if anyone had come across this before.
Note: I hit a massive pot hole on a B road locally to me while trying to avoid a BMW...
Your thoughts?

From your pic looks like a standard XS alloy, which can be cheap as chips on fleabay. If the wheel is cracked I’d have thought the tyre could well be damaged as well. Always your choice, obviously, but i’d sling the rim, seeing what dameage there was to the tyre would determine its fate.

As a minimum get that cracked one under the car as a spare until a replacement is sourced.

Me personally, ide chop it and buy another.
Reason being. My son had a set of alloys on a vectra good few years ago, same thing pot hole cracked one.
He had it back and forth to the fab shop at least three times before he got it replaced.
Your choice, but good money after bad, if ime asked.
I'd replace it if it were me, hit hard enough to crack in one place is likely to fracture it elsewhere as well so I wouldn't trust it at 70 (ish) on the motorwayPete

Depends on the wheel you need an expert to tell if it can be repaired, don’t just give it to any welder.
I have used them for alloy repairs, well regarded in the rally world.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the suggestions. Just to clarify the alloys in question are not Discovery 3 XS ones. The ones I have are 2016 HSE Luxury ones. To replace a single alloy is roughly £700 so I was hoping to have it repaired.
Thanks

At the end of the day it is your choice....but what he said...^^^^^
Minimum 2.7t of metal...and a cracked/repaired rim...Is it really worth the risk - to yourself and (more importantly as they don’t have a say in the decision) to other road users if the repair doesn’t hold up when driving ?MY2008 D3 - It got me hooked...gone

I’d also say bin it but the suggested use is a brilliant idea, never thought of that🙂
You can quite often find excellent undamaged used wheels for sale

HSE Luxury ones come with a minder to prevent paparazzi intrusions. The News of the World have been trying to get photos since that infamous Waitrose kerb mounting incident last summer.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
personally I think crack repair of an alloy wheel should be illegal..........Pete
