James Edwards (Brock) v Hillendale (Nelson) |
|
I am giving up on James Edwards at Brock despite trying to give them my business and the benefit of doubt, but enough is enough! Instead I am turning to Hillendale who have already made a better impression than James Edwards have managed! Considering JE is on my doorstep and I have to travel to Hillendale an extra 35 miles, guess it says a lot about JE
Example issues
Dont answer the phone. When receptionist does answer, the service department are too busy to take a call! (When trying to book my car in).
Considerably most cost for standard services (£100 more for 45K service).
Long lead times for service booking - even without courtesy car.
They are too busy to drop me back at home, which is 5 miles down a clear, no traffic road (a service they offer!) without three weeks notice.
Took 3 visits to correctly diagnose and fix fan bearing failure.
Arranged a courtesy car, then not available when I arrived.
It appears that they get too much work with too little effort, so I doubt they will miss my custom. Although may regret it when the D4 order goes in!
Should add that I have considered 10forcash, who has an excellent reputation on the forum for services provided, however the fear of void warranty worries me even though under the legislation it shouldn't be an issue. I just don't want to test this, as I have needed the warranty for some expensive items to date

Can't coment on either as never used them but I use Lakeland. Im just outside Blackpool and have a day out in the Lakes planned around dropping the car off. You may even blag a D4 for the day as well. It must only be an hour from you. Their service and parts dept open all day Saturday so this is when we take ours. Ours is having its MOT there this Saturday, just hope the sun shines! Price is good too. Service upto now exceptional. Last year EGR went when we had a weekend up there. Rang them with the problem on the Friday, they said call in on your way. Checked and confirmed EGR fault, dropped car off Sat am and fixed by their DP as they were busy. Can't say any fairer than that.
Having said that I hear Hillendale are good too.

Thanks MCB
I think I have seen a few good comments about Lakeland, so that sounds like a good option. And as you suggest a good excuse to get into the lakes for the day.
Hows the MG Spring of yours? Where are you planning on launching this year?

At least they are consistent across the group then
I have used Lakeland they were excellent and I had a great day out too! I have also used TFC who I would also recommend - really good guy. I have had warranty work done since using TFC (not related to the work he did I can assure you) and didn't have any problems. ALTERNATIVES...............No alternatives for off-road capability.
If you want Surrey plush, go for a Range Rover. If you want Manchester bling it's the Range Rover Sport. But if it's a seven-seat, go anywhere 4x4, it's time to Disco.

I didn't have a good of an experience at Brock when I was looking round to buy a D3.
In the end I went to Hillendale in Nelson and got it there. I've had it serviced at Hillendale ever since and I can say I've been very happy with them. (Nice old Series i in the showroom too )

Just (January) bought my car from JEB - only 5 miles for me and normally their cars are very overpriced, but this one had been in stock 60 days so down £3k on original price - which made it competitive but not cheap. At least I got just as prices were going up again
WHen I collected the car it had not been valeted, by the end of the weekend it had one tyre part deflated but they sorted both out and gave me experience voucher as a sorry
Now the lumbar support rotary handle has come off in my hand - must have been broken when I bought it
So I'll be using TFC or Lakeland for servicing - inclined to use TFC due to good reports on here

I must go quite close past you as I drive to JEB / Garstang then - not that I could tell you any of the road names... as I go through Inglewhite on the way! We live on a farm (my father in law's I hasten to add) between Goosnargh and Longridge. There are three silver D3's on the lane!
