Cars been booked into dealers for an MOT, which it passed, after requiring a new horn
Whilst it was in I asked them to look into a judder i have.
This only occurs when towing, and only when I tow the caravan (2000Kgs 'ish). Its Ok with the boat or little trailer.
It only seems to happen when the car sets off and for the first few miles. As i accelerate steadily from a start, and normally when up hill the car judders as if going over small rumble stripes (if I accelerate hard it seems OK). After its been running for a while it then seems OK.
the dealer has hooked up a heavy trailer and can reproduce the fault but cant identify whats causing it.
The fact they have actually reproduced it is great, so a big to MJ Fews.
However, they want to first eleminate the tyres as they have had occasions when new or worn out tyres have caused strange things to happen. They dont think its a diff as the diff sounds fine and there are no error codes whatsoever being reported for anything. They are just trying to get a demo car they can swap the tyres over with.
Has anyone had similar symptoms and what was the solution to rectify.
Thanks Duncan

could just be the xtra strain making it more susceptable to the judder?
At high speeds it wouldn't get the opportunity to feel the judder, but when working at lower pressure/speed, it would be more noticable?
Could be other stuff, but it sounds similar to the general high mileage judder character had Bodsys Brake Bible

DiscoDunc, years ago I had a Japanese 4x4 that had nylon plied tyres. Every night it was garaged on a very smooth hard flat surface and the next morning it always took a few kilometres before the tyres rounded out. They had flat spots until they warmed up.
Have you ruled out the tyres on the trailer having temporary flat spots? LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

just been looking at all the other "judder" threads and looks like its pointing towards the gearbox flush. I am assuming the problem is coaused by crap in the torque converter and the flush gets rid of it Duncan

They are suggesting a Double Gearbox Flush
its booked in for the 18th June
hopefully that will fix it Duncan

A double flush is pretty expensive.
I was quoted around £380 for that.
Because of the huge cost involved I just had a gearbox oil change.
The thought was that if it didn't cure it, I'd have it done again.
Therefore a double flush, but in installments.
However the oil change cured my problems.
Cost of that was around the £200 mark. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Same as Ron says, the extra load (and therefore raised transmission temp) is causing the oil to lose viscosity and therefore not provide drive until the pressure is built up again by the TC.
