A Juicy Oil Leak

Hey Everyone

My D3 with a 2.7 has started leaking quite heavily. I suspected the crank seal as I know they're an issue so swapped that for a new genuine one seated correctly. I replaced the oil pump too around a 2 years ago with a genuine one.

Started her up had a quick peak under no more oil leak. A minute or two later it returns, nightmare. I've got a picture of where it's pouring from, any help is greatly appreciated!

For context, it'll take a minute or so before you see the dripping. See the image below, just above the oil pump, I've also checked the Allen Key bolt on the top of the pump which is also dry as a bone.

Plan to take a look at this later today, if anyone has any suggestions before then it would be greatly appreciated!

The V doesn't seem to have a pool of oil either so I don't think its coming from there.

Is that the top of the oil pump ? If yes its probably the pump seal.
Maybe needs a new pump on there. (comes with the seal)

Need to trace it yourself to be sure where it is coming from

Good to see you still here helping out Pete!

Its the car from this thread where you were a massive help on keeping it on the road, thank you Very Happy .

We've put thousands of miles on it since the rebuild. I'll give it a good clean down and going over, hoping it isn't the pump as its relatively new...

That could be from the Oil cooler in the middle of the V, check to see if the rear part is full of Oil you need to use a cable tie or something long enough.

Otherwise as Pete as suggested Oil pump seal, but I have never had one of those leak before.

Flack Thumbs Up

As Flack said, never seen one before, until this week. Pump seal.

Just an update in case anyone else is in a similar position. Stripped it down today even further and as above looks to be gasket. New gasket and ANOTHER crank seal on order... I've had a slight oil leak since the rebuild, maybe one or two drips a day, I'm guessing the gasket finally let go? Must have nicked it on installation. Great Rolling Eyes

Does anyone know a smart way to get the oil pump back on without the plastic insert? Shocked

So for anyone that has a similar question this is what did it! Some TIG wire bent holding the pump, many tries, lots of patience and all the swear words in the toolbox.

Cars back together and not an oil leak in sight. The old gasket actually sat lower than the mating face where it was leaking. Shocked

Thanks for the help, now to do the rear bushes...
