Just Installe Google Nexus 7
Hi everyone,
I'm new here having picked up my 06 D3 manual last week.
It's taken me at least two hours this evening to fully install a Google Nexus 7. Looks and performs as it should! I am one happy bunny, decent SatNav (FREE)!! email internet music etc etc and it looks factory installed!!
If someone could point me in the right direction I'll try and post some pics!
This is my second Disco (promised myself that I'd never buy another (my first was a brand new Disco 1 when they were launched - BIG MISTAKE) but this old girl is a million miles from the original "Donkey"

Sorry I haven't been able to take any pictures this weekend as hoped. We are preparing for our first Journey in the D3, setting off on Wednesday driving to Granada. Should be interesting!
To get a neat install of the Nexus 7 I would recommend that you obtain the official docking station from Google £24.99 plus postage. This enables the discrete power/audio connections whilst holding the tablet in place, plus allows for easy removal/portability.
I am using NavFree for Sat Nav as I have used it on an iPhone for well over a year with very few issues. The mapping is done offline so no nasty shocks when abroad! (and its free)!!!!
I'll get the pics whilst we are away and post asap.

Any update on this. It is something I am considering doing to replace the almost redundant factory fit screen.Colin

Hi,
I promise to get some pics this weekend as we are giving the old girl a clean!
Just returned safely from our first long distance jolly (Harrogate to Granada via Burgos and Biarritz) 4500 miles no problems with anything 4 up with luggage for a fortnight and 36 mpg!!
A promising start to my return to Land Rover ownership!

35.8 mpg on fuel put in and distance travelled, not trip computer!!!
Totally brimmed tank to totally brimmed tank on level ground?
Have you checked accuracy of odometer over a long straight distance?

Most forecourts are fairly level, and the mileage (odometer) corresponds fairly accurately with my SatNav and Google App Trip Computer.
I am happy (please don't p*ss on my parade)!!!

I keep a spreadsheet for all my car costs... Sad I know...
But my calcs and the trip computer are pretty close, this last fill up was within 1mpg, and all others within 2mpg...flickr

a fellow Yorkie! You're invited to the parade!!
Perhaps an explanation to the mpg figures would be that out of a total 0f 4134 miles 3416 were on motorways that were all fairly busy.
We did have a fair share of mountainous roads (Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada). Does mpg increase or decrease at altitude?

Pictures of Nexus 7 installed in D3
Hi folks!
apologies for my photographic ability (or lack thereof)!
Pics show Nexus 7 (£100) plus Nexus 7 Dock (essential) (£25) usb cable and adapter (£10).
I thought this was both an attractive and cost effective way to add SatNav and internet connectivity to a D3 without SatNav.
Fitting is VERY easy, it took me less than two hours. I would recommend a Dremel (I don't have one) or a steady hand (don't have one of those either)!! I made a rough cardboard template of where the cutting need to be performed, had a stiff drink to instill some confidence!
Pull off the central plastic trim surrounding the radio, the box behind this (where the factory screen should be) is the first to be butchered. This can be roughly cut as you don't see it when the tablet is in situ plus you can trim it if you choose.
Practice fit the dock here until you are happy with the clearance. I don't have the dock secured in place as it is heavy and the tablet and cutouts prevent movement.
Then use your template to carefully mark where you need to cut the plastic trim. Cut this CAREFULLY as it is visible after the install. Mine is going away to be refinished shortly and I will tidy the internals of the mounting cutout prior to sending it off.
Check, check, and check again as you are cutting this trim, it holds the tablet securely (I have no rattles or unprovoked movement)
I then routed the mini usb to usb charger cable through the rear of the centre console (I will fit a dedicated point at a later date) to pick up either the accessory socket or cigarette lighter socket. It is worth noting that the Nexus 7 draws 2 amps so make sure the usb accessory charger is thus rated (most aren't).
The rest is easy, refit the trim plug everything in and away you go! I also added a pic of the iPod Classic installed in the coin tray!
Forgot to mention the best part, you can take the Nxus 7 out of the car and use where and when you want!!!
