Probably yet another repeated topic, but being a tad behind the times I would like to know of the benefits from people already using these.
1. Does it affect warranty on the motor, as it is a modification
2. Does it improve MPG
3. Does it improve performance
Just asking as am interested, looked up K & N and they spout these improvments, but just wanted to know from all you reliable Forum members........

K & N Ok in my book. (Not a rep.) |
|
To the contrary, I installed a K & N filter a few months back and have found it improved pick up and fuel economy from 13.9kLtr/100km to 13.5 with my wife driving around town. She was unaware I was looking and didn't change her driving style (Still working on that one). I found the $130 I spent on the filter and $25 for the cleaning and re-oiling kit will pay for itself over time in saved fuel and throw away paper filters as it will last the life of the car. The pick up improvement was based on my opinion and could be disputed however it only seemed noticeable on take off from stationary.
Hope this helps,

...but the purpose of a filter is to also protect the engine from ingesting dust causing premature wear...did you test this or just cross fingers and hope?
Look on the web, there are various sources of filtration and flow tests carried out on paper, foam and linen filters. Cheers

Myself & some others here use ITG filters. I fitted mine at the same time that I had an ecu remap. As such, I can't say that on its own it makes a difference.
I know several very experienced engine tuners who all prefer ITG to K&N, which is why I went for one. Plus I have a K&N on another car & having to clean it is a real pain. Under normal use, the ITG reguires virtually no cleaning. I'm going to get a new one soon though as its been fitted for more than two years now.
There's plenty of info. on the net as to why people prefer ITG filters.
See Group Buys for the link to an ITG discount.

The small % increase in dust particle egress is (in my opinion), negated by my RIA, so I guess this has to be taken into consideration, these are almost mandatory in my part of the world, when weighing up your $$$ options you should also consider your environment and other control’s to gain the most out of your LR, however point taken.
