keeping spare wheel pressure checked

The spare wheel fits in the bay valve up. So the only way of checking the pressure is to empty the load bay and winch it down. Well we all know how often that happens.......
So I thought about valve extensions, cheap as chips, just put it on the valve, and poke it through the wheel, easy peesy, check your pressure any time. Just a thought, probably been done before !

As someone who recently dropped their spare out for a check and found it at 16psi, I can see the value in something like this! Got any recommendations for somewhere to buy one cheaply?

I just googled car valve extensions. Found some on Ebay, 4 for £4.99 at 140mm long, so you could use two if needed. I chose the ones which the seller said were Michelin brand. HTH

Lots of trucks running dual drive wheels have the valve extensions, they have their plus and negative points.
Plus points are, doddle to check inner tyre pressure, flex ones are a pian as it is then a two handed job.
Negative points, they can and do leak slowly, they can and do get damaged, I have seen them damage tyres from flailing about.

I would say just drop the wheel annually for a proper check.

And always carry a pump for those times when the spare has leaked!

There’s a handy space to keep one, just ahead of where the tow bar stows, against the near side rear wing.

I just carry a battery powered inflator so that I can inflate the spare if needed.

My spare wheel is so corroded that the tyre deflates. Was planning on replacing it soon with a new one (£180 :O) but of course I had a blow out before that and had to use it (prayed it didn't fail at 50mph). Had about 12psi in it. Lucky I had the inflator with me. Surprised

Got home and ordered that replacement as soon as I got through the door.
