kent green laning
hi guys
been reading through some threads but they are from a few years back
wondering if we could organise a kent off road day out
been looking at these byways , boats , some with restrictions
does anyone know of any decent , non damaging lanes please
think it would be great to have different models of land rovers, from novice to advance
all in all a great fun day out
seems though looking through different sites it may be a question of buying some os maps and checking them out
just didn't know if someone may know of such lanes please
thks as always

Hi,
I live in Bromley, Kent, and I've been looking for the same.
Unfortunately I've not found anything particularly suitable yet, especially non damaging ones.
I did find 2 or 3 when I was out on my bike (I'll need to get the gps coordinates off my bike's garmin). I remember that one of them had a very steep hill with chalky steps, which might be a little bit ambitious on road tyres, but worth a look.
The only one that I remember off the top of my head was near to Bluebell picnic site. There's a really easy mostly flat lane that is almost not worth bothering with, but there is a steep muddy one that runs off it, unfortunately I couldn't have a go on it on the bike (it only had road tyres on), but I will return and have a recce to see if its suitable for the Disco.
In the meantime, if you do find any non damaging ones, or pay and play sites, post on here, I may well join you there

laser
will make sure i update this post as i find out
so who ever wishes to join us can come along
more the merrier
may take a good few months , as i need to ensure there not covered in thorn bushes etc
more importantly that it's ok to go on the lanes ,
think it's always important to show that 4x4 can be responsible

Best hook up with someone who knows them and the law well or risk end up on wrong side of the law and vehicles impounded at worst
I would join a local GLASS affiliated club who can show you the ropes
www.glass-uk.org for all the info especially code of conduct
At this time of year best to avoid lanes without hard surfaces to avoid too much damage... Visitor from fullfatrr.com

I spent years driving lots of the local Kent lanes and will tell you theres very few that wont damage a D3/4!
Some are so tight that when I drive my series down them you cannot open the doors
Anything thats sticks out ie mirrors/snorkels/racks etc will fall victim.
Most of the Pilgrims way will be fine, in fact a normal car can drive it, but any lanes that lead off it especially any that go uphill avoid as you will get stuck/damaged.
Theres also quite a few that are padlocked (incl some of the pilgrims way) and need permits to travel them, permits are foc and can be got from the council all they need is your reg number and address etc.
Theres also quite a few that have temp TRO for the winter.
Most are also quite short.
Be aware the chalk side slopes are like ice when wet and will pin your car against a tree.
The Kent GIS site is quite good and will tell you whats what and any restrictions that are in place, sadly its slow to load and a pita to use.
The OS maps are also good, lots of the lanes have been shut over the years.
Youtube is a good source of info.
Ive always laned on my own and my favourite time to go out is the wee hours, no walkers, no cyclists, no motorbikes, just total piece and quiet.

Off piste is the tech term for tossers that rag up the woods either side of the lanes, sadly they dont give a as they just move onto the next lane.
