Key Fob

Just got back from another great week on North Stradbroke Island.

The only downside being we dropped our keys off the Jetty at Amity Point into about 5M of water. The disco was locked with both of our wallets and mobile phones inside + the key to the unit we were staying in.

A big thanks to Gary from Sydney and Ray from Manly. Gary drove the family and i back to Point lookout, and Ray drove me from Point Lookout to Dunwich, waited with me for the water taxi (delivering the spare keys from the Mainland), and then drove me back to Amity to collect the Disco. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

The Wilkinson Holiday would have been lost but for these 2 good folk - sadly I couldn't convince them to switch from Toyota to Land Rover!! Very Happy

Sorry, and the point of the post was a new Key and Fob costs about $385. It is cut in the UK factory - sent out here, and then you need to re-code it to the car (Dealer says they can do it when i pick up the key.).

Does anyone know if it's possible to get just the metal key part cut here in Aus? I'm keen to get just that bit to put in my leg rope while I'm out surfing.

....Key less entry is a pain & not really an advantage - just like electronic oil level measurement a gizmo that you dont really need with a big potential for failure
I have both on my XK & cant see the point
 BREXIT - done properly.

Hi Dan W - although I can't find it now, I seem to recall that someone said there is a Ford key that has the same shape. I gather Mister Minit and other shopping centre type kiosks would be able to copy the LR key shape for you.

You would have to secure the RF key in the car and use the Ford key to open the passenger door, grab the RF key and silence the alarm/horn though.

You can get uncoded key fobs on fleabay occasionally.
They must have never been coded before in order for dealer to code them to your vehicle. Get the blade cut as suggested above.

Update

New key arrived from the UK so I head to the dealer to pick it up and get it coded. Left the car there because I was late for work.

Get a call a couple of hours later saying the key is coded and opens up everything, but won't turn the ignition.

New key is on it's way back to the UK.....

Startin to think I should have braved the sharks and rushing tide!

The fault appears to be how the blade was cut - despite the correct VIN being on the packaging, the key that arrived looked to be a different cut altogether.

If it was possible just to get the blade cut here i would have thought the dealer would just do that - instead they took photos of both keys to show the boffins back in LR HQ that the key that arrived wasn't the same as the ones originally produced.

The dealer said this is the second replacement disco key they've had the issue with - I wonder if the LR Supercomputer is out of synch or if the key cutting monkeys just punched in the wrong vin Smile

I rang the dealer today as I hadn't heard anything about my new key. In short, I'm starting to get very worried.
The dealer tells me that the is an issue with LR in England and they are having trouble getting correct keys cut to match existing VIN details.

Dealer also tells me I'm not the only one now waiting on the key issue to be fixed by LR.

My suspicion is that their database is out of whack, and they don't really know which key shape now matches what VIN.

Any folk in other countries having this issue?
