Key limit programming
Hi
Wondering if u would be so kind to help me plse with something that I can’t find the answer for
Is it true there’s a limit of how many times keys can be reprogrammed into the ecu , understand a key cant be reprogrammed to another vehicle, but after that limit has been reached the CJB has to be replaced
Also heard there’s something like a 15 x key limit of how many times a CJB will accept new keys being programmed into it
Is there a difference in a D3 to a D4 plse
Is this true plse
Many thks as always
Ps, haven’t got issues but just very curious regarding this

So found out the following so far which may be useful to others
D3 keys can’t be reprogrammed , D4 keys can be reprogrammed , but don’t know if that’s wireless keys only
Still searching to see what the CJB key limit is of how many times it will allow keys to be programmed to it
IIRC, you can clear keys from the car's memory with iiD tool. but it is early hours, so I may have it wrong..

usually all keys not present during programming are wiped.
THat's how it usually works. (and lost keys deleted)
Yeah D3's can have 10-16 keys programmed.
New LR's can only have 2 keys programmed!

Thks Pete as always for the reply
Apologises for the daft question, so after on the D3 16 x keys are programmed and 2 x for the D4 does that then mean a new CJB is req
Or as mentioned the 30 x slots the D3 CJB has
Also believe the older D4 keys can’t be programmed to the newer style because of old software that can’t be updated so the CJB regs replacing, think that’s from 2010 onwards
Once again apologises for the daft questions
Many thks

I would think once 16 are programmed, you can clear them and start again.
I haven't tried
D4 are very strict to prevent/reduce theft, so flexibility removed

Cheers Pete
Indeed think it would take a while to fill them up
Ref the D4 ! That makes a lot of sense , haven’t they now done some software updates to prevent them getting nicked in seconds on the keyless versions
Maybe that’s why I’ve seen where dealers have advised owners they can’t program new keys without replacing the CJB if they’ve had the software update
But alas I might have totally misunderstood it which doesn’t take much
Bless u as always

Yes.
It doesn't prevent relay theft though, where you can get close enough to the key to read it, and then relay the code over to the car and be able to open, start it and drive off.
keeping your keys in a metal tin/microwave will prevent this though (for cars with push button start)
